Kevin Bacon checks in with Steve Carell comedy

Kevin Bacon is the latest to join John Requa and Glenn Ficarra's upcoming untitled comedy starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore. The project is set up at Warner Bros., and Dan Fogelman ("Fred Claus," "Bolt") pened the script. The Hollywood Reporter says Emma Stone is also on board.

Carell will play a man who employs a life coach (Gosling) to save his marriage after his wife (Moore) announces she wants a divorce. Bacon will play a working colleague of Carell's wife. Bacon, who recently starred in "My One and Only," has "Super" and "Elephant White" coming soon.

Watch Julianne Moore in 'Shelter' trailer

Julianne Moore has done a horror thriller titled "Shelter," and even though I'm not sure when or if it will make it to theaters, it's got a trailer you can check out after the jump. Moore co-stars with Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the flick helmed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein.

Moore plays Dr. Cara Jessup, who's been challenging the existence of multiple personality disorders for a long time. When she meets her new patient Adam, however, she starts to realize that his unusual behavior may cause her to revise her beliefs.

"Shelter" doesn't look like a mainstream horror flick, but then again, I'm sure it can't be as bad as some other films of the genre we've recently seen. See for yourself in the trailer below. At least the two leads are known enough to market the film on a bigger scale.

'A Single Man' gets intriguing new poster

A Single Man

While we're at it, here is a new poster for Tom Ford's directorial debut "A Single Man," a drama that will open in limited release Dec. 11, 2009. The film stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Ginnifer Goodwin.

Based on Christopher Isherwood's book, the film follows George Falconer (Firth), a British college professor who is struggling to find meaning in his life after the death of his long-time partner, Jim.

The one-sheet you see below is in fact quite simple, but I find it rather intriguing as well. Also, Firth won the best actor award for his role at the Venice Film Festival, and that really means something.

Moore, Neeson to star in 'Chloe'

Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried have signed on to star in Atom Egoyan's upcoming thriller "Chloe."

According to Variety, the film follows a doctor (Moore) who hires an escort (Seyfried) to test her husband's (Neeson) fidelity. Things start to heat up when her decision puts her family in danger.

Egoyan, whose credits include "Where the Truth Lies" and "The Sweet Hereafter," is directing a script by Erin Cressida.

Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock, among others, are producing, with Jason Reitman on board as executive producer. Shooting is set for February, according to the trade.

Moore was last seen in "Blindness." She's recently completed "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee." Other upcoming project of hers include "A Single Man" and "Shelter."

As for Neeson, he will soon be seen in Oliver Hirschbiegel's "Five Minutes of Heaven." Seyfried most recently starred in last summer's box office phenomenon "Mamma Mia!"

Colin Firth is ‘A Single Man’

Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode are set to star in Tom Ford’s directorial debut “A Single Man.”

According to Variety, the film follows a British college professor who loses his partner of 16 years. I know it’s not much, but that’s all we know at this stage.

Ford and David Scearce adapted Christopher Isherwood’s novel, which details one day in a professor’s life in Los Angeles.

I assume Firth is on board as the lead character. Firth most recently starred in Universal’s hit musical “Mamma Mia!” He recently wrapped filming for “Dorian Gray.

As for Moore, she was last seen in “Blindness.” She has several projects coming up, including “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” and “Shelter.”

Goode last starred in “Brideshead Revisited.” He’ll appear in Zack Snyder’s upcoming actioner “Watchmen.”

Review: “Blindness”

Seen on: October 3, 2008

The players: Director: Fernando Meirelles, Writers: Don McKellar, Jose Saramago (book), Cast: Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Danny Glover, Alice Braga

Facts of interest: Opened this year's Cannes Film Festival.

The plot: The film follows a small group of people struggling to survive after an epidemic of blindness descends upon their city.

Our thoughts: Fernando Meirelles’ “Blindness” is not as powerful or engaging as his previous works “The Constant Gardener” and “Cidade de Deus,” but the film is definitely not as bas as some critics made it out to be. The nature of the subject matter examined in this mystery thriller is one that concerns all of us, but it’s the way it is presented here that may not be appealing to large audiences.

'Blindness' web reviews

Fernando Meirelles returns to the big screen with "Blindness," a mystery thriller about an epidemic of blindness that descends upon a large city. Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore star in the lead roles. The film premiered at Cannes and pulled mixed reviews. Let's see what our online friends have to say about it:

• Katey Rich at Cinema Blend: "A sharp view of humanity with a glimmer of hope, 'Blindness' is a movie for our times-- flawed, brutal, with key moments of brilliance."

LatinoReview's Ron Henriques: "Though the third act takes the picture in a direction filled with hope and perhaps freedom, the dramatic power is already lost and the story is turned into nothing more than a morality tale."

• James Rocchi at Cinematical: "But while Blindness can be faulted for many things, it also has to be respected for its ambition, craft, and effort."
