Juan Carlos Fresnadillo

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who directed the excellent horror sequel "28 Weeks Later," is now officially in talks to direct "Bioshock" for Universal. Believe it or not, but this project really looks like it's finally moving along.

Daily news dose: Fresnadillo to direct 'X-Ray' remake; Rourke to star in 'Passion'

Here's your dose of daily film news for March 11, 2009:

• Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, director of "28 Weeks Later" and "Intacto," is set to develop a remake of Roger Corman's 1963 film "X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes." The original followed a scientist who's experimenting with a unique X-ray vision technology. (Variety)

• Mickey Rourke is attached to star in Mitch Glazer's upcoming indie drama "Passion Plays." Plot details are strictly kept under wraps. Glazer also wrote the screenplays for "The Recruit" and "Great Expectations." Rourke recently starred in "The Wrestler." (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Speaking of Rourke, he's officially joined "Iron Man 2." Deadline Hollywood Daily reports that "... Rourke has signed on for the role of the Russian villain in the sequel after his agent David Unger got the quote up to a "significant" level despite this punishing economic climate where the studios are taking advantage of talent."

• Yesterday we learned Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand and Alan Doyle have officially joined the cast of Ridley Scott's upcoming "Robin Hood," and today Universal announced the film will be released May 14, 2010. Russell Crowe plays Hood, and Cate Blanchett is on board as Maid Marian.
