'Get Him to the Greek' gets funny red band trailer

Nicholas Stoller's new comedy "Get Him to the Greek" will hit theaters June 4, 2010, and you can check out a new red band trailer for the flick right after the jump. First, let me say I adored Stoller's previous film "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," and that's also the reason why I have high hopes for this one. Lucilky, the new trailer is funny, even though a lot of footage is taken straight from its predecessor.

In the film, Jonah Hill plays Aaron Green, an assistant at a Los Angeles record company who flies to London and has 72 hours to bring back Aldous Snow, a crazy British rock star who's supposed to put on a big show at the famous Los Angeles Greek Theater. Only problem: Snow is completely nuts, and Green struggles to get his job done. Elisabeth Moss co-stars in the comedy. Have a laugh below.

Jonah Hill to star in 'Sitter' comedy

Funny dude Jonah Hill ("Superbad") will star in "The Sitter," Fox's upcoming comedy David Gordon Green may end up directing. If you already forgot, Green is the guy who brought us the insanely funny comedy "Pineapple Express." He's got "Your Highness" coming soon.

The Hollywood Reporter says "Sitter" follows a college student who ends up babysitting his neighbor's two boys and 8-year-old girl after being kicked out of school and coming back home to live with his single mother. As expected, his night turns into chaos.

Hill looking after a bunch of troublemakers sounds funny, and considering both he and Green are awesome at what they do, I have no doubts they will give audiences a good time with "The Sitter." Hill, by the way, recently completed "Get Him to the Greek."

Funny man Ricky Gervais ("Ghost Town") returns to the big screen in a lead role in his upcoming comedy "The Invention of Lying," and the folks at Cinematical have received a cool new poster you should check out after the jump. It's simple, yet appealing, and certainly refreshing to look at. Okay, Jennifer Garner is refreshing to look at.

Oobermind gets Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill have joined and Robert Downey Jr. has left the voice cast of DreamWorks Animation's upcoming comedy project "Oobermind," which was written by Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons.

Variety says the film follows a supervillain (Ferrell) who slips into a deep crisis after he finally defeats his rival Metro Man (Pitt). As a result, he creates a new hero (Hill) who has evil intentions himself.

Also on-board of "Oobermind" is Tina Fey, who will be voicing a reporter assigned to provide coverage of the whole situation. The film, which was originally known as "Master Mind," is set for release in November 2010.

Jonah Hill knows the 'Best Thing About Pam Rooney'

Jonah Hill in Spuerbad

Funny guy Jonah Hill is on a roll, and he's attached to star in "The Best Thing About Pam Rooney," a comedy Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O'Brien will write for Universal Studios.

Plot details are kept under wraps right now, but Variety calls "Pam Rooney" a high-concept romantic comedy. Cohen and O'Brien will also serve as executive producers on the project.

Hill can currently be seen in Judd Apatow's "Funny People." I also really enjoyed his performances in "Superbad," "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Knocked Up."

Next up for Hill is "The Invention of Lying," Ricky Gervais' next flick. He's also got "Get Him to the Greek" and "The Adventurer's Handbook" soon.

Jason Segel going for 'Adventurer's Handbook'

Jason Segel in I Love You Man

Funny guy Jason Segel is in talks to join Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman in Universal Pictures' upcoming comedy "The Adventurer's Handbook."

In the film, four friends bored to death embark on an adventure inspired by the stories and characters in Mick Conefrey's book "The Adventurer's Handbook: Life Lessons From History's Great Explorers."

Hill wrote the script with Matt Spicer and Max Winkler, and Akiva Schaffer ("Hot Rod") is directing "Handbook." The Hollywood Reporter says production should kick off next year.

Segel, by the way, would play a musician who spends his time as a backup piano player and alcoholic. Hill is an isolated engineer, with Schwartzman set to play a Grammy winner.

'Funny People' web reviews

A scene from Funny People

"Funny People" marks Judd Apatow's third directorial effort, and it stars Seth Rogen, Adam Sandler, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill, Leslie Mann and Jason Schwartzman. Here's what some of the Web's critics have to say about the drama-comedy:

• Katey Rich @ CinemaBlend: "The best we can hope for is that Funny People is a necessary middle ground between Apatow's adolescent experiment and the more adult stories he has yet to tell."

RopeOfSilicon's Brad Brevet: "Apatow's ability to keep me curious as to where he was going to take things next was this film's saving grace in my case."

LatinoReview's Ron Henriques: "Though the third act is problematic, 'Funny People' works when Sandler and Rogan are either interacting humorously or discussing gag material and the nature of comedy."

Movie Review: “Funny People”

Funny People ReviewThe Collector

Seen on: July 31, 2009

The players: Director: Judd Apatow, Writer: Judd Apatow, Cast: Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman

Facts of interest: Apatow also directed "Knocked Up" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."

The plot: A stand-up comedian has a near-death experience that will prompt him to change his life and look at things from a different perspective.

Our thoughts: I wouldn’t go as far and call Judd Apatow’s “Funny People” one of the year’s best, but as a dramatic comedy carefully examining the impact a near-death experience has on a desperate stand-up comedian, the film works marvelously. “People” may not be Apatow’s most entertaining project, but it sure is as sincere as his previous efforts.

This week's new movie releases - July 31, 2009

This week, we're looking at three wide releases: Judd Apatow's comedy "Funny People" with Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Eric Bana; John Schultz's "Aliens in the Attic" with Ashley Boettcher and Austin Robert Butler; and Marcus Dunstan's horror pic "The Collector":

Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler in Funny People

FUNNY PEOPLE

Synopsis: In the film by Judd Apatow, Adam Sandler stars as George Simmons, a standup comedian whose life changes after he has a near-death experience.

First thoughts: So far, I've enjoyed most of Apatow's flicks, and judging by its trailers and TV spots, "Funny People" looks like a heartfelt comedy with tons of refreshing humor and solid performances. I'm glad to see Sandler back in a role that actually doesn't look retarded. This is definitely my first pick for the weekend.
