'Gossip Girl's' Blake Lively heads to Affleck's 'Town'

Teen Choice Award winner Blake Lively from the sucky television show "Gossip Girl" (sorry, I just can't stand it) has signed on to join the solid cast for Ben Affleck's upcoming crime flick "The Town," the big-screen adaptation of Chuck Hogan's novel "The Prince of Thieves."

She joins Affleck, Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall and Jeremy Renner. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the awesome Chris Cooper is also in talks to join the Warner Bros./Legendary project, and I can only hope he does.

'Mad Men' star Jon Hamm throws 'Sucker Punch'

Let me tell you, I feel terrible because I still haven't seen one single episode of "Mad Men," but right now, I just don't have the freaking time. I promise it's on my list though. Anyway, "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm has now joined Zack Snyder's upcoming action adventure "Sucker Punch," this according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Hamm joins the already cast Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish and Carla Gugino. The flick is set in the '50s and centers on a girl locked inside a mental institution. During her stay there, she imagines an alternative reality in which she plans her escape...

Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall travel to 'Town'

Jon Hamm and Rebecca Hall are packing for Ben Affleck's "The Town," the big-screen adaptation of Chuck Hogan's novel "The Prince of Thieves."

Directed by Affleck, the film focuses on a thief who falls in love with the manager (Hall) of the bank he recently robbed. Variety says Hamm plays an FBI agent who also gets somehow involved with her.

Hogan and Peter Craig wrote the screenplay, which Affleck rewrote. “Town” marks Affleck’s second directorial effort after his acclaimed drama “Gone Baby Gone.”

Hamm, whose credits include "Mad Men," recently starred in "The Day the Earth Stood Still." As for Hall, the "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" star will soon be seen in "Dorian Gray."

Daily news dose: Anne Hathaway to star in 'Get Happy;' 'New Moon' cast growing

Here's your dose of film news for March 24, 2009:

• Anne Hathaway is set to play Judy Garland in the big-screen adaptation of Gerald Clarke's biography "Get Happy." Hathaway was recently nominated for an Oscar for her excellent performance in "Rachel Getting Married." The actress will soon star in "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Fiance." (Variety)

• Native Americans Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman have signed on to star in Chris Weitz's upcoming "Twilight" sequel "The Twilight Saga: New Moon." The five will portray members of the wolf pack, defending humans against vampires. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson return as Bella and Edward. (Variety)

• Taye Diggs has joined Brandon Routh and Sam Huntington in "Dead of Night," based on Tiziano Sclavi's Italian comic books. According to IMDb, the film follows the adventures of supernatural private eye Dylan Dog, who seeks out the monsters of the Louisiana bayou in his signature red shirt, black jacket, and blue jeans. • Jon Hamm has signed on to star in Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman's upcoming Allen Ginsberg biopic "Howl." David Strathairn, Alan Alda, Jeff Daniels, Mary-Louise Parker and Paul Rudd are also on board. Varierty says Hamm is set to play defense attorney Jake Ehrlich.
