Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep to star in 'August'

Actresses Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep are headed to the big screen together for John Wells' adaptation of Tracy Letts' Pulitzer-winning play "August: Osage County." Letts wrote the screenplay.

THR says the story centers on a family's life after the death of its patriarch. Streep will play the widow/mother, and Roberts stars as the eldest daughter, whose husband had an affair with a student.

Sounds like quite the drama. Roberts last starred in "Eat Pray Love," while Streep last appeared in "It's Complicated." Wells, who will be directing "August," has "The Company Men" coming soon.

"Men" is set during a slowing economy and follows a successful career man (Ben Affleck) who struggles with his financial situation after he suddenly loses his job. The same happens to two of his co-workers.

Chris Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Craig T. Nelson and Rosemarie DeWitt co-star, and yes, that is quite an impressive cast. The story sounds and looks familiar, but the trailer works.

Ben Affleck is in negotiations to star in John Wells’ upcoming drama “The Company Men,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Wells, the film is set during a slowing economy and follows a man who struggles with his financial situation after losing his job.

That’s pretty much all we know about the project at this time. Wells previously wrote and directed several “ER” episodes. He also co-created television’s “Third Watch.”

Affleck recently boarded the big-screen version of Chuck Hogan’s novel “The Prince of Thieves,” which he will rewrite, direct and possibly star in.
