Movie Review: "RED"

Seen on: October 16, 2010

The players: Director: Robert Schwentke, Writers: Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Cast: Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich

Facts of interest: Based on a graphic novel.

The plot: Bruce Willis plays a retired agent hunted by the CIA. As a result, he gathers his old team and attempts to stop the bad guys before they finish the job.

Our thoughts: Boasting a great cast capable of delivering both action and comedy, Robert Schwentke’s “RED” works just fine as a source of brainless big-screen entertainment. None of what the film has to offer should make you run outside proclaiming it’s the best movie of the year, but as long as you’re not taking anything in this thing too seriously, you may just have a good time with Bruce Willis and Co.

'Secretariat' gets a so-so second poster

I don't know what it is, but somehow, I can't really get all too excited about Randall Wallace's upcoming Walt Disney horse drama "Secretariat." Maybe it's because I think it's impossible to beat "Seabiscuit."

Needless to say, this one opens Oct. 8, 2010, and a new poster has shown up online courtesy of Disney. To tell you the truth, it's not even as compelling as the previous poster, which itself was okay at best.

The cast, however, is promising, with Diane Lane leading the race. She will slip into the role of Penny Chenery, an American racehorse owner whose thoroughbred Secretariat won the 1973 Tripe Crown.

New awesome 'Red' trailer debuts!

Robert Schwentke's upcoming action comedy "Red" looks really cool, and this brand-new feature trailer proves that yet again! Check it out after the jump, because it really delivers the crazy, explosive goods!

"Red" is based on the DC Comics graphic novel of the same name by Warren Ellis, and it boasts a fantastic cast: Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Mary-Louise Parker & John Malkovich.

The flick tells the story of Frank Moses (Willis), a former black-ops CIA agent who is now living a quiet life.  That is, until the day a hi-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him and his old CIA buddies.

With his identity compromised and the life of the woman he cares for, Sarah (Parker), endangered, Frank reassembles his old team (Freeman, Malkovich and Mirren) in a last ditch effort to survive.

The first trailer for Robert Schwentke's upcoming action comedy "Red" has debuted online via Yahoo! Movies, and I urge you to check it out after the jump. In brief, this thing just looks incredibly cool!

Movie Review: "Jonah Hex"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: June 18, 2010

The players: Director: Jimmy Hayward, Writers: Neveldine & Taylor, Cast: Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, John Malkovich

Facts of interest: Hayward also helmed "Horton Hears a Who!"

The plot: Jonah Hex is a badass bounty hunter chasing down the worst bad guy ever: John Malkovich.

Our thoughts: “Jonah Hex” is a bloody mess of a movie. It’s an utterly chaotic big-screen adventure lacking a decent story and intriguing characters, and the whole film just feels like it was rushed without any passion or attention to detail. On top of that, it’s also a boring flick, and this despite its short 80-minute running time.

New 'Secretariat' poster now online

Here's a simple but nice poster for Randall Wallace's upcoming Walt Disney adventure drama "Secretariat," which will be riding to theaters Oct. 8, 2010. See the full version right after the jump.

The cast for this one is promising, with Diane Lane leading the race. She will slip into the role of Penny Chenery, an American racehorse owner whose thoroughbred Secretariat won the 1973 Tripe Crown.

Chenery first stepped into the world of horses and racing when she took over her father’s horse farm in Virginia. She later became known as the “first lady of racing.” John Malkovich co-stars.

Finally! First 'Jonah Hex' trailer debuts online

It sure took a while, but the first trailer for Jimmy Hayward's upcoming action adventure "Jonah Hex" has finally found its way to the web. After all, the movie is opening in theaters June 18, 2010, and this is the first footage we see from the film based on John Albano and Tony DeZuniga’s graphic novel.

As expected, the trailer boasts a bunch of gun battles and fun action sequences, and it looks like "Jonah Hex" will be quite the entertaining adventure. Brolin seems to be the right guy for the role, but I'm still not entirely sold on Megan Fox. This character may work for her, but she fails to impress in this trailer.

First trailer for 'Secretariat' rides to web

Randall Wallace's horse drama "Secretariat" will be riding to theaters Oct. 8, 2010, and a first trailer for the Walt Disney release has debuted online. Check it out after the jump. One thing you'll notice really quick is that this one boasts quite the solid cast, including Diane Lane, John Malkovich and James Cromwell.

Lane will slip into the role of Penny Chenery, an American racehorse owner whose thoroughbred Secretariat won the 1973 Tripe Crown. Chenery first stepped into the world of horses and racing when she took over her father’s horse farm in Virginia. She later became known as the “first lady of racing.”

Mike Rich ("The Nativity Story") wrote the script, and as you can see below, the film promises to be an entertaining horse race movie that will likely find an audience even though I doubt it will match the excellence of "Seabiscuit." Anyway, it's always good to see Diane Lane in great shape.

First 'Jonah Hex' footage hits web

Josh Brolin in Jonah Hex

Jimmy Hayward's "Jonah Hex" is supposed to hit theaters June 18, 2010, but so far, we haven't seen that much of the action adventure starring Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich. Well, SyFy premiered a short trailer preview recently, and that spot has now landed on the Web. Check it out below while it lasts.

I know it's too short to really appreciate, but this thing does promise a lot of boom and bang. "Hex" follows a bounty hunter and gunslinger with a scarred face who's tracking down a voodoo practitioner (John Malkovich) trying to raise an undead army of confederate soldiers. Michael Shannon co-stars.
