Cate Blanchett packs for Wright's 'Indian Summer'

Cate Blanchett is attached to star in Joe Wright's upcoming "Indian Summer," the big-screen adaptation of Alex von Tunzelmann's book of the same title.

Von Tunzelmann's story chronicles the final days of Britain's colonial rule in India, as Lord Mountbatten is sent to watch over the transition of power to Jawaharlal Nehru.

Variety reports Blanchett will play Lady Edwina Mountbatten. William Nicholson, whose credits include "Gladiator" and "Elizabeth: The Golden Age," wrote the script.

Oscar winner Blanchett was last seen in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." She is currently filming "Robin Hood" for Ridley Scott. Wright last directed "The Soloist."

'The Soloist' web reviews

Joe Wright, director of "Pride & Prejudice" and "Atonement," returns with "The Soloist," a drama starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. The film follows a journalist who accidentally runs into a homeless musical genius in Los Angeles, and here is what the Web's critics have to say about the flick:

CinemaBlend's Katey Rich: "'The Soloist' relies on its main character so much that liking him is the key to the entire film, and despite the immense bonus of being played by Robert Downey Jr., Steve Lopez is not a character worth spending an entire movie with."

• Matt Goldberg at Collider: "Wright's problem is that he's trying to carry this film all by himself rather than do what a director should and bring all the elements together to make a thoughtful film that will resonate with viewers after the end credits roll."

Joblo's Chris Bumbray: "Sure- it’s a safe, inspirational film, but it’s an exceedingly well crafted one, and that’s not represented at all in the promotional materials."

• Ron Henriques at LatinoReview: "Downey as always is full of passion and it’s a great pleasure to see that spark in his eye when something enlightens him."

'The Soloist' delayed yet again!

This is starting to piss me off. Sure, I can wait for a movie to hit theaters without going insane, but what I can't stand is the constant delay of release dates for reasons only studios think are important.

Variety today reported Paramount and DreamWorks have agreed to push back the release of Joe Wright's drama "The Soloist" yet again, this time to April 24, 2009.

The film was supposed to open this week, but last month, Paramount moved it to March 13. Back then, Paramount's Rob Moore said they would give the flick an aggressive release.

As the trade reports, the new April date is one week before the official beginning of the summer movie season. Now I'm wondering... is someone out there getting cold feet? Hmmm...

Anyway, people looking forward to the film have to wait a little longer now. If this is the first time you read about "The Soloist," it stars Robert Downey Jr. as a man who accidentally runs into a homeless musical genius (Jamie Foxx) from Skid Row.

Paramount delays ‘The Soloist’ release

I was planning to see a bunch of awards contenders in the coming two months, but my hopes are quickly fading.

As reported by Variety, Paramount Pictures decided to push back Joe Wright’s upcoming drama “The Soloist” to March 13, 2009. The film starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx was originally scheduled to hit Nov. 21, 2008.

For Paramount, money is apparently more important right now than a shot at some serious awards. The trade says the studio saves many millions by moving the flick’s release date to next year.

But that’s not all. Paramount is also postponing Edward Zwick’s upcoming war drama “Defiance,” which was scheduled to open Dec. 12. The film will open in limited release Dec. 31 to qualify for an Oscar run, but the wide release is now set for Jan. 16.

Release date changes have been quite frequent this year. “The Road,” “Twilight,” “Quantum of Solace, “Bolt” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” were all moved up or pushed back from their original scheduled openings.

Brilliant 'The Soloist' trailer debuts online

Yahoo! Movies just premiered the trailer for Joe Wright's upcoming drama "The Soloist," which stars Robert Downey Jr. as a journalist who accidentally runs into a homeless musical genius (Jamie Foxx) in Los Angeles. Susannah Grant wrote the screenplay based on Steve Lopez's book.

The only thing I can say at this point is that this beautiful trailer gave me the goosebumps. Aside the gorgeous music and the introduction to a solid story about a powerful friendship, this footage also promises two tour-de-force performances by Downey Jr. and Foxx. Academy Awards, here they come! "The Soloist" opens Nov. 21, 2008.
