Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Sony Pictures Animation's "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" landed at the No. 1 spot at the North American box office Friday with a solid $8.1 million in ticket sales.

The animated adventure directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller is currently playing in both 3D and 2D format at 3,119 locations, and it follows the misadventures of an inventor who creates a device that converts water into food.

Movie Review: “Love Happens”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: September 18, 2009

The players: Director: Brandon Camp, Writers: Brandon Camp, Mike Thompson, Cast: Aaron Eckhart, Jennifer Aniston, Dan Fogler, John Carroll Lynch, Martin Sheen

Facts of interest: None.

The plot: A self-help author (Eckhart) who has troubles dealing with his own problems falls for a florist.

Our thoughts: Brandon Camp’s “Love Happens” is more of a tearjerker than a romance, and that’s certainly part of what’s wrong with the film. As awkward as it sounds, this movie would probably work a whole lot better without the love story, because at its core, it’s more about dealing with loss than falling in love.

Jennifer Aniston to star in 'Goree Girls'

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston is keeping herself busy, and the next project she's joining is Michael Sucsy's "Goree Girls," which is based on the true story of a girl band in a Texas prison.

Sucsy ("Grey Gardens") is the latest to clean up a script that Margaret Nagle wrote and John Lee Hancock rewrote. It's based on a 2003 Texas Monthly article by Skip Hollandsworth.

The plot of the film focuses on eight women who created an all-girls C&W band in prison and were eventually pardoned after rising to fame, according to Variety.

Aniston's recent acting gigs included "He's Just Not That Into You" and "Marley & Me." Future films of hers include "Love Happens," "The Baster," "The Bounty" and "Pumas."

Jennifer Aniston sticks to romance in 'Pumas'

Jennifer Aniston has a thing for romantic comedies these days, and the actress just boarded CBS Films' upcoming romance "Pumas."

Written by Melissa Stack ("I Want to ___ Your Sister"), the plot follows two women who usually date younger men. When they go on a French skiing vacation, they encounter several romantic hurdles.

Variety says Wayne McClammy ("Cool School") is attached to direct "Pumas." Anniston will also serve as a producer on the film.

Aniston's recent romantic gigs included "He's Just Not That Into You" and "Marley & Me." She will soon warm up to Aaron Eckhart in "Love Happens." You will also soon get to see her in "The Baster" and "The Bounty."

Jennifer Aniston to produce 'Holler'

Jennifer Aniston will join Screen Gems to produce "Holler," a drama about racial tensions written by Dana Adam Shapiro, one of the guys who brought you "Murderball."

The Hollywood Reporter says the story is inspired by true events and follows a biracial high school student who returns to his hometown in Mississippi and falls in love with a white girl.

Things turn for the worse when he finds out she cannot hook up with him at the segregated prom. Of course, he's pretty pissed about it, and soon enough, he's immersing himself in a campaign for some much-needed change around the racist town.

"Holler" is not Aniston's first producing gig. She previously executive produced "Management," which she also starred in. She also recently wrapped "The Baster," and IMDb also has her listed as producer on "The Senator's Wife."

On the screen, Aniston will next star in "Love Happens," out in theaters Sept. 18, 2009.

Trailer radar: Jennifer Aniston in 'Love Happens'

Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston go all romantic in Brandon Camp's upcoming drama "Love Happens," which is scheduled to open in theaters Sept. 18, 2009.

In the film, Eckhart plays a self-help guru who travels to Seattle for a business trip and falls in love with a woman (Aniston) who will eventually help him confront the dark sides of his life.

First trailer for the flick has popped up online, and you can check it out after the jump. To be honest, I feel Aniston and Eckhart may indeed be capable of pulling off a solid onscreen chemistry in this thing.

Martin Sheen, Judy Greer, Dan Fogler and Sasha Alexander co-star. Camp wrote the script with Mike Thompson.

Posters for 'Brüno,' 'Post Grad,' 'Management'

Before I wrap it up for today, here are some recent movie posters. The first one after the jump is the latest one-sheet for Larry Charles' upcoming comedy "Brüno," in which Sacha Baron Cohen travels the world pretending to be an Austrian fashionista. The film opens July 10, 2009, and as you can see the poster is somewhat provocative (and funny).

Jeff Goldblum set for 'The Baster'

Jeff Goldblum has signed on to star alongside Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman in Mandate Pictures' upcoming comedy "The Baster."

The film follows an insecure man (Bateman) who discovers his best friend (Aniston) plans to have an artifical insemination and secretly replaces her donor's semen with his own.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Goldblum is set to play Bateman's business partner. The trade further describes his character as someone "whose idea of working out is walking slowly on the treadmill while eating a candy bar."

Allan Loeb, whose credits include "21" and "Things We Lost in the Fire," is writing the screenplay. "Blades of Glory" helmers Josh Gordon and Will Speck are set to direct.

Goldblum's recent big-screen credits include "Adam Resurrected" and "Man of the Year."
