Watch Jeff Daniels in 'The Answer Man' trailer

John Hindman's directorial debut "The Answer Man" (formerly known as "Arlen Faber") just received its first trailer, and you can check it out after the jump. In the film, Jeff Daniels plays Arlen Faber, an author of a popular series of spirituality books. Things slowly start to change for the reclusive author when he meets a single mom (Lauren Graham) looking for answers he just doesn't have.

Magnolia Pictures will release the film in limited theaters this summer. The cast also includes Lou Taylor Pucci, Kat Dennings and Olivia Thirlby. I've heard some mildly positive reviews from Sundance, but I admit this trailer doesn't entirely win me over. On the other hand, it's good to see Daniels back in a real leading role. We'll see what this one is all about when it opens...

Five more join Allen Ginsberg biopic

The cast for “Howl” is growing, as David Strathairn, Alan Alda, Jeff Daniels, Mary-Louise Parker and Paul Rudd are in talks to join the upcoming Allen Ginsberg biopic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Written and directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, the film focuses on the trail launched to censor Ginsberg’s lengthy poem entitled “Howl.” James Franco is on board to portray the lead character.

Strathairn stars as prosecuting attorney Ralph McIntosh, while Alda plays Judge Clayton Horn. Daniels takes on the role of prosecution witness professor David Kirk, with Parker playing prosecution witness Gail Potter and Rudd starring as defense witness Luther Nichols.

Strathairn was last seen in “The Spiderwick Chronicles” and recently completed “The Uninvited.” Alda will next star in “Flash of Genius,” while Rudd can next be seen in “Role Models.”

As for Parker, she is currently starring in television’s “Weeds.” Daniels can be seen on the big screen alongside Don Cheadle in “Traitor.”

I haven’t had a chance yet to read through Ginsberg’s poem, but this project sounds pretty interesting. Considering this impressive casting announcement, this is definitely one to look out for once it’s in the can.

‘Traitor’ web reviews

I have to admit I totally forgot about the Wednesday release of Jeffrey Nachmanoff’s “Traitor.” Starring Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce and Jeff Daniels, the film centers on a U.S. special operative who turns his back on his government and starts working with a terrorist group. Let’s quickly check out what the Web’s critics have to say about it:

• Katey Rich at CinemaBlend: "First-time director Jeffrey Nachmanoff handles things competently enough, and anyone who's worn out on Tom Clancy novels could probably do worse."

LatinoReview's Ron Henriques: "With today's current events, 'Traitor' walks on thin ice with its story, but succeeds at entertaining while not becoming too political."

• Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "It's not like 'Traitor' is a bad film, it's just that it is a film we have seen over and over again with a little bit of FBI vs. terrorist cat and mouse game guiding the plot."
