Boom! Three-minute 'Expendables' trailer lands!

Sylvester Stallone is blowing up shit in his upcoming action spectacle "The Expendables," and a new three-minute trailer has landed on the Web. Check it out after the jump... it looks kind of amateurish.

Yes, it's full of explosions, shootings and terribly bad jokes, and while that can be an amusing combination here and there, it just doesn't work for me in this preview. I hope the film itself has a little more to offer.

Anyway, the movie follows a group of tough mercenaries who infiltrate a South American country to overthrow its dictator and free its population. Sly himself, Jet Li, Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke star.

Jason Statham

Actor Jason Statham is in talks to star in Elliott Lester's upcoming London-based thriller "Blitz," Variety reported Sunday.

Statham's been a busy guy. He starred in "The Bank Job," "Transpoter 3," "Death Race" and "Crank: High Voltage" recently, and he's got "13," "The Expendables" and "The Mechanic" coming up soon. Yeah, he's the right guy for this, don't you think?

Jason Statham to star in 'Mechanic' remake?

Jason Statham may star in a remake of The Mechanic.

Jason Statham (currently onscreen in "Crank: High Voltage") is apparently in talks to star in a reinvention of Michael Winner's 1972 action thriller "The Mechanic," according to Production Weekly's Twitter feed. Simon West, whose credits include "Con Air," "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and the remake of "When a Stranger Calls," is in negotiations to direct the film.

The original "Mechanic" starred Charles Bronson as a gifted hit man who takes on an apprentice (Jan-Michael Vincent) and teaches him everything he knows before getting ready to retire. At first, everything goes pretty well, until the apprentice's cocky attitude and ruthlessness causes quite the tricky situation between the two men.

Movie Review: “Crank: High Voltage”

Seen on: April 17, 2009

The players: Directors: Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor, Writers: Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor, Cast: Jason Statham, Amy Smart, Clifton Collins Jr, Bai Ling, Dwight Yoakam

Facts of interest: Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor also directed "Crank."

The plot: Jason Statham returns as Chev Chelios, who's struggling to hunt down the man who stole his heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker.

Our quick thoughts: Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s “Crank” really didn’t need a sequel, but I guess the film’s success and its increasing fan base eventually prompted the filmmakers to develop a follow-up. It’s called “Crank: High Voltage,” and it’s twice as over-the-top and brainless as its amusing predecessor.

This week's new movie releases - April 17, 2009

Here's what's on the menu this week: Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's "Crank: High Voltage" with Jason Statham, "17 Again" with Zac Efron, and Kevin Macdonald's thriller "State of Play" with Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Helen Mirren and Rachel McAdams:

CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE

Synopsis: In this high-octane sequel, hitman Chev Chelios’ (Statham) launches himself on an electrifying chase through Los Angeles in pursuit of the Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart.

First thoughts: Yes, I admit I am quite excited to see this sequel, even though it looks a gazillion times crazier and far more brainless than its predecessor. That said, I really enjoyed "Crank" because it delivered fast-paced non-stop silly action. And sometimes, that's exactly what I need (as long as it's entertaining), no matter how over-the-top it is.

New 'Crank 2: High Voltage' images surface online

The folks at UGO just posted several new images from Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's upcoming sequel "Crank 2: High Voltage." Here is one:

Jason Statham returns as Chev Chelios, who faces a Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working. The insane trailer can be found here.

While this second installment looks even more ridicuous than the first, I admit I am looking forward to seeing Statham kick ass again in this eccentric role. Check out a second still below, and some more right here.

Official 'Crank 2' trailer is flippin' crazy!

A couple of weeks ago we got a first look at some insane footage from Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's upcoming sequel "Crank 2: High Voltage," and now the official trailer has finally debuted online.

As you can see below, the film looks totally flipping crazy, with Jason Statham doing everything in his power to keep himself alive.

In the sequel, Chev Chelios faces a Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working.

Wait, WHAT? Check out the fast-paced trailer after the jump, and you'll get a good look at what sorts of things Chev must engage in to keep that heart working.

"Crank 2: High Voltage" opens April 17, 2009. I agree the concept alone is insanely ridiculous, but I admit I highly enjoyed the first film and I can't wait for more brainless Chelios action. Amy Smart returns as well, and she still looks hot.
