Movie Review: 'Bad Teacher'

Seen on: June 22, 2011

The players: Director: Jake Kasdan, Writers: Gene Stupnitsky, Lee Eisenberg, Cast: Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel, Justin Timberlake

Facts of interest: Bradley Cooper was considered for a role in the film.

The plot: Elizabeth Halsey is a boisterous, foul-mouthed junior high school teacher, who, upon getting dumped by her rich fiancé, begins to court another wealthy man, substitute Scott Delacorte. This ignites a feud with a fellow teacher.

Our thoughts: Full confession alert: I root for Jake Kasdan. Ever since I saw his criminally underrated film "The TV Set," I've taken an interest in his career trajectory. "Orange County" and "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," while certainly not cinematic milestones, were nonetheless solid if not unspectacular, so I always thought he had some directorial chops.

Cameron Diaz gets pretty naughty in Jake Kasdan's upcoming comedy "Bad Teacher," and Columbia just released the first red band trailer for the film hitting theaters June 24, 2011. You can check it out after the jump. Jason Segel, Justin Timberlake, Lucy Punch and Phyllis Smith co-star.

In the film, Diaz plays a foulmouthed middle school teacher who gets dumped by her boyfriend and soon embarks on a hunt for a new man as well as enough funding for bigger breasts. Timberlake plays a substitute teacher and Diaz's target. "Teacher" was written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.

Watch the new trailer for 'Gulliver's Travels'

Rob Letterman's "Gulliver's Travels" opens in 3D Dec. 22, 2010, and a brand-new feature trailer has debuted online. You can check it out below, if you dare... Alas, it doesn't exactly look like a big winner.

In the adventure, a writer named Lemuel Gulliver (Jack Black) travels to Bermuda for an assignment and discovers a hidden island with tiny inhabitants. Billy Connolly, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt co-star.

My two cents on this trailer: although this thing boasts a great cast, it already looks pretty boring. Black doing his thing used to be funny, but this looks rather lame. I'll walk into this with low expectations.

Movie Review: "Despicable Me"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: July 6, 2010

The players: Directors: Pierre Coffin, Chris Renaud, Writer: Ken Daurio, Cast: Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, Will Arnett

Facts of interest: None.

The plot: Gru is a villain who plans to steal the moon. But then he's faced with a new challenge: he must raise three orphan girls...

Our thoughts: Reviewing a movie is solely a subjective thing. It is the pure representation of one’s feelings and thoughts in written form, and nothing more. I decided to start off with this because many people out there still tend to verbally attack reviewers who hate a movie they love. Keep it cool folks, because we all like and dislike different things. Now, let me move on to my review…

Better trailer for 'Despicable Me' arrives

Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin's upcoming 3D-animated family flick "Despicable Me" will invade theaters July 9, 2010, and a brand-new feature trailer has just debuted online. To be honest, I'm still not convinced about this one, but then again, I have to admit this preview gives me higher hopes than its weak predecessors. Believe it or not, but I actually laughed twice or three times watching this one.

This feature preview reveals a lot more story and new characters, but it also includes a couple of solid jokes, which I hope are more frequent in the film. Steve Carell voices Gru, an evil man who plans to steal the moon. Gru runs into trouble when he unexpectedly encounters three orphan girls, and at the same time, he's also struggling to beat his greatest enemy Vector (Jason Segel), the world's greatest villain.

New 'Despicable Me' trailer disappoints

Despicable Me

A brand-new teaser trailer for Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin's upcoming 3D-animated family flick "Despicable Me" has popped up on the Web, and you can take a look at it right after the jump.

Steve Carell voices Gru, an evil man who plans to steal the moon. While his evil mother encourages him to execute his plan, Gru runs into trouble when he unexpectedly encounters three orphan girls.

This special preview focuses on Gru's rivarly with Vector, another villain. Sadly, I'm not at all impressed with this footage. I did enjoy the first teaser trailer, but this one seriously disappoints.

Jason Segel going for 'Adventurer's Handbook'

Jason Segel in I Love You Man

Funny guy Jason Segel is in talks to join Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman in Universal Pictures' upcoming comedy "The Adventurer's Handbook."

In the film, four friends bored to death embark on an adventure inspired by the stories and characters in Mick Conefrey's book "The Adventurer's Handbook: Life Lessons From History's Great Explorers."

Hill wrote the script with Matt Spicer and Max Winkler, and Akiva Schaffer ("Hot Rod") is directing "Handbook." The Hollywood Reporter says production should kick off next year.

Segel, by the way, would play a musician who spends his time as a backup piano player and alcoholic. Hill is an isolated engineer, with Schwartzman set to play a Grammy winner.

Watch: 'Despicable Me' gets a funny first trailer

The first trailer for Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin's upcoming 3D-animated family flick "Despicable Me" has debuted online, and you can watch it after the jump.

Steve Carell voices Groo (or Gru), an evil man who plans to steal the moon. While his evil mother encourages him to execute his plan, Groo runs into trouble when he unexpectedly encounters three orphan girls.

The trailer below is more of a whole scene, in which we get a first glimpse at what Groo is up to. It looks funny, and I admit it got me to laugh a couple of times. At this stage, I'm quite excited about this one.

Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, the team behind "Horton Hears a Who!," wrote the script. Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig, Will Arnett, Danny McBride, Russell Brand, Jemaine Clement, Jack McBrayer and Julie Andrews are also part of the voice cast.
