Movie Review: “Dragonball Evolution”

Seen on: April 11, 2009

The players: Director: James Wong, Writer: Ben Ramsey, Cast: Justin Chatwin, Joon Park, James Marsters, Emmy Rossum

Facts of interest: Wong also directed "The One" and "Final Destination."

The plot: Goku must find the seven magical dragonballs before the ruthless villain Piccolo calls forth a badass demon who will destroy the world.

Our quick thoughts: James Wong’s “Dragonball Evolution” is certainly not the worst film I’ve seen so far this year, but it’s still a bad one. A very bad one, actually. I don’t really know much about the “Dragonball” franchise and I’ve never read the series or played any of the video games, but I like to think it doesn’t take an expert to realize this movie is pretty much a crappy big-screen adaptation.

The bad 'Dragonball' clips just keep coming...

Yesterday I posted two weak clips from James Wong's upcoming "Dragonball Evolution," and today I stumbled across five more.

And wow, do they look terrible. Whether it's the bad acting or lame special effects, these clips just stink. You can hate me as much as you want, but I'm convinced this movie will just crash and burn.

The film tells the story of an alien sent to destroy Earth, who has a change of heart and decides to join the humans in their fight against various aliens and bad guys.

"Dragonball Evolution" is adapted from the manga created by Akira Toriyama; the work was also turned into a Japanese anime series that played all over the world.

The film stars Justin Chatwin, Joon Park, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum and Yun-Fat Chow, among others. Scheduled release date is April 8, 2009.

Two weak 'Dragonball' clips pop up online

Well, "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" pretty much crashed at the box office, so it will be interesting to see how the upcoming big-screen version of "Dragonball" will perform.

James Wong's "Dragonball Evolution" hits theaters April 8, 2009, and I just stumbled across two brand-new clips, which you can check out after the jump.

None of the images, trailers or clips I've seen over the past months really won me over, and to be honest, at least in my opinion, these new clips pretty much stink as well.

Maybe if it weren't for the horrible acting, this footage would impress me more, but at this stage, I can only hope the movie will be a little more interesting than this preview.

Anyway, in the first clip below, Goku (Justin Chatwin) encounters Master Roshi (Yun-Fat Chow). In the second clip, Chi Chi (Jamie Chung) fights herself.

New 'Dragonball' trailer surfaces online

"Dragonball" fans rejoice! A brand-new trailer for James Wong's upcoming adapation of the popular video game popped up online, and you can check it out after the jump.

I don't have a passion for "Dragonball" at all, so I pretty much couldn't care less about this release. Somehow though, this trailer looks a little too goofy, loaded with bad special effects.

In the flick, Goku and co. fight against the forces of the deadly Saiyans. Goku's best chance to get through this alive are the DragonBalls, which allow him to call for a mighty dragon.

The balls drop April 8, 2009. Now I'm asking you, the fans, what do you think of this new trailer? Sound off below.

New ‘Dragonball’ poster and screenshots hit

One film I am personally not looking forward to in 2009 is James Wong’s “Dragonball.” Why? Because everything I’ve seen so far looks pretty crappy. There, I said it. Now you can hate me.

Anyway, Dbthemovie.com has a new poster and several screenshots from the upcoming flick. On the one-sheet, you can see Emmy Rossum as Bulma. Okay, I have to admit she looks good. Maybe there’s something to like about this movie after all.

“Dragonball” also stars Justin Chatwin, Jamie Chung, James Marsters and Yun-Fat Chow. The film is scheduled to open April 10, 2009, and a trailer is expected to hit sometime in October.

Click here for some more screenshots, and enjoy the new poster after the jump.
