James Mangold to direct 'Wolverine' sequel

Who knew "The Wolverine" would ever find a director? While no deal is in place quite yet, it finally looks like 20th Century Fox is about to start negotiations with one man: James Mangold. That's right, the "Walk the Line" director may end up helming the action sequel.

Deadline says Jackman welcomes the idea of Mangold helming the sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" very much. Christopher McQuarrie wrote the script, and word is the film will start shooting soon. The story will primarily take place in Japan.

Mangold also directed the recent action comedy "Knight and Day," the solid Western "3:10 to Yuma" and "Identity." Darren Aronofsky was supposed to direct "The Wolverine," but he dropped out, leaving Fox with a tough choice on who to hire for the job.

'Wicked' musical is coming to big screen

It looks like it's finally happening: "Wicked" is on its way to the big screen. Folks from the musical have already met with filmmakers, and it looks like Universal will try and get this one into production fast.

Deadline says several directors have already warmed up to the project, including J.J. Abrams, James Mangold, Ryan Murphy and Rob Marshall. Whoever ends up doing it, these are interesting choices!

"Wicked" the musical is based on Gregory Maguire's novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West." I had the chance to catch it on Broadway a few years ago, and yes, it's a cool story.

Movie Review: "Knight and Day"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: June 16, 2010

The players: Director: James Mangold, Writers: Patrick O'Neill & others, Cast: Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Peter Sarsgaard, Paul Dano, Viola Davis

Facts of interest: Mangold also helmed "Walk the Line" and "3:10 to Yuma."

The plot: A secret agent in trouble runs into a charming woman, and together, they try to put an end to the chaos that surrounds them.

Our thoughts: Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are in great shape in James Mangold’s new action comedy “Knight and Day,” a silly, yet wildly entertaining summer blockbuster stuffed with witty dialogue, refreshingly brainless action and interesting enough characters you’ll instantly like. Oh, and as over the top as the movie really is, I have to admit it’s also incredibly easy to enjoy.

"Knight and Day" is a pretty cool movie, and this is definitely a cool poster. Even though I'm not allowed to post my review until next week, I can say that I totally enjoyed this thing. It's light, funny & action-packed.

"Knight and Day" centers on a fugitive couple (Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz) on a glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure where nothing and no one – even themselves – are what they seem.

You can see some of this in the trailer as well, but it's a fun clip nonetheless. I'm still not entirely sure what to think of this flick, but the action makes it look like a fun ride. Let's hope the humor works too.

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are joining forces again in James Mangold's upcoming action-comedy "Knight and Day," and a second feature trailer for the film has just debuted on the Web. I'm still not entirely sure what to make of it, but I admit this new trailer promises at least some cool action sequences. The film is now set for release June 25, 2010. Viola Davis, Maggie Grace and Peter Sarsgaard co-star.

Fox's synopsis goes like this: The film centers on a fugitive couple (Cruise and Diaz) on a glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure where nothing and no one – even themselves – are what they seem. Amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, they race across the globe, with their survival ultimately hinging on the battle of truth vs. trust. Are you ready for another romantic action adventure?

Daily news dose: Eva Green to star in 'Womb,' Blanchett in 'Nottingham'

Here's your daily news dose for Feb. 9, 2009:

• Eva Green is set to star in Benedek Fliegauf’s English language debut "Womb," about a widow whose desperation causes her to clone her late husband. Matt Smith is also on board. Green's credits include "Casino Royale" and "The Golden Compass." (Variety)

• Now that Sienna Miller won't be staring in Ridley Scott's "Nottingham," Cate Blanchett may take over the role of Maid Marian. "She is a wonderful actress and it would make it a much classier film if she was in it," Mark Strong told The Telegraph. Strong is on board as Sir Guy of Gisbourne.

• Dirk Blackman and Howard McCain will write "ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction," the big-screen adaptation of Kevin Grevioux's comic. The Hollywood Reporter says the film focuses on "an elite team of soldiers sent on a covert operation into hostile territory in the Middle East to stop what they soon discover to be a government-created army of the undead."
