'Iron Man 2' scoring $8M Tuesday

Jon Favreau's "Iron Man 2" delivered quite the solid start at the North American box office this past weekend, but the sequel is still doing very well on weekdays. The film scored $9.3 million Monday, and it added another $8.3 million Tuesday. Domestic total gross currently stands at $145.8 million.

On Tuesday, "Iron Man 2" generated an average of $1,913 per theater at 4,380 locations. It's 10.5 percent less than the Monday average, but it's still a solid performance. The film will have to deal with heavy competition this weekend with the release of Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood," which premiered at Cannes.

'Iron Man 2' rules overseas box office again

Jon Favreau's "Iron Man 2" is ruling the worldwide box office. On the international circuit, the anticipated action sequel collected a strong $57.2 million this weekend, lifting its overseas total to $194 million. The film is currently playing in 61 territories, and globally, it has already grossed $327.6 million. Nice start!

Still going relatively strong after such a long time in release is "Alice in Wonderland," which bagged $12.5 million for a foreign total of 629.5 million. With $960.3 million worldwide, the Tim Burton-directed 3D flick is closing in on $1 billion, although I'm not sure it will actually reach that mark.

Following in third place this weekend was "Clash of the Titans," which picked up $8.8 million and brought its international cume to $295.1 million. Samuel Bayer's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake came in fourth, pulling $6.7 million from ticket sales in just a few markets.

Meanwhile, Shawn Levy's comedy "Date Night" finished fifth overseas, taking home $4.7 million for a cumulative gross of $41.7 million. Also, "How to Train Your Dragon" bagged $4.5 million ($212 million total), while "The Back-Up Plan" managed to generate a weekend gross of $4.3 million.

'Iron Man 2' makes solid $52M Friday

Jon Favreau's "Iron Man 2" kicked off its North American box office run with a big $52.4 million in ticket sales Friday. That's a big victory over its predecessor "Iron Man," which brought in only $35.2 million on opening day. The one-day gross of the sequel includes $7 million generated via midnight screenings.

"Iron Man 2," which stars Ronert Downey Jr. in the lead role, will probably finish the weekend with a gross of around $120 million. It will not be as high as expected, but it will still be huge nonetheless. The film, also starring Don Cheadle, Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke, is now playing at 4,380 locations.

This week's other release, "Babies," only made it to No. 12 Friday, bringing in $380,000. The documentary about the first year in the life of four babies is now playing at 534 locations. Movie Review: "Iron Man 2"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: May 4, 2010

The players: Director: Jon Favreau, Writer: Justin Theroux, Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow

Facts of interest: Stay put at the end of the credits! A surprise awaits you!

The plot: Tony Stark is back in action, and this time, he has to battle Whiplash, who teams up with Justin Hammer to bring down Iron Man for good.

Our thoughts: Tony Stark is back in action in Jon Favreau’s anticipated sequel “Iron Man 2,” and while the lead hero is still in solid shape, the movie itself is showing some weaknesses. No, it’s not a big deal, really, but compared to its fantastic predecessor, “Iron Man 2” falls a bit short. That’s not to say the movie sucks, because truth be told, it’s still a very entertaining, explosive second installment.

New 'Iron Man 2' clips invade the web

Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man 2

Two new clips from Jon Favreau's upcoming sequel "Iron Man 2" have hit the online world today, and you should check them out after the jump. No, no big action stunts in these, but if you'll take the time to watch them, I promise you'll be in for some good old "Iron Man" humor. Hey, that's not that bad, right?

In the first clip, Robert Downey Jr. aka. Tony Stark is debating with Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts. They are talking about Stark's interest in Natalie Rushman (Scarlett Johansson) for the position of his new assistant. Clip no. 2 is a funny little talk between Stark and his rival Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell).

"Iron Man 2" opens May 7, 2010, and the press folks in Los Angeles already got to see the flick. We over here have to wait a little longer, but I would be lying if I said I was not excited about this. In fact, I can't wait to see this thing. On top of that, I wil make sure to catch it in IMAX, and so should you, don't you think?
