Sam Rockwell shows up in new 'Iron Man 2' photo

Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2

Fancy a good look at Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer in Jon Favreau's upcoming anticipated sequel "Iron Man 2," which is due to land in theaters May 7, 2010? You got it! Check him out in this photo that recently popped up @Fantasy.fr.

In the film, Hammer is a weapons manufacturer who wants to bring down Stark, his biggest rival. Hammer is not Stark's only enemy this time around. Iron Man will also have to take up with Mickey Rourke's Whiplash, who builds his own version of Stark's cool suit.

Ten Best Movie Trailers of 2008

The year 2008 is quickly coming to a close, so I've decided to go back and pick my 10 favorite movie trailers of the year (yes, "The Dark Knight" is one of them). Before I get started, here are some notes about my selection:

I've only looked at trailers for films that were actually released in 2008. Trailers for films that won't be released until 2009 were excluded from my selection, but I will take those into consideration at the end of next year.

Also, the following list is solely based on the quality of the trailers, and they have nothing to do with my opinion about the actual movies.

Lastly, feel free to post your own selections using the comment section below.

Samuel L. Jackson to appear in ‘Iron Man 2’

Terrence Howard won’t return for the sequel to Jon Favreau’s action hit “Iron Man,” but guess who will: Samuel L. Jackson.

The folks over at LatinoReview say Jackson confirmed his appearance in “Iron Man 2” at a press junket for his upcoming comedy “Soul Men.”

Jackson said he recently spoke with Favreau and agreed to show up in the anticipated sequel. He didn’t comment on what role he would be playing and how big it would be.

Well, considering Jackson popped up as Nick Fury at the end of the first film’s credits, it would be silly not have him reprise this role. I guess that’s awesome news for Fury fans, right?

In related “Iron Man 2” news, Terrence Howard officially commented on him not returning as Jim Rhodes.

Here’s what Howard said on NPR: “It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. I read something in the trades that implicated it was about money or something but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on.”

Your thoughts in Jackson’s return in “Iron Man 2”? Sound off below!

'Mamma Mia!' rules overseas b.o. yet again

Universal’s “Mamma Mia!” is still rocking the big screen overseas, clinging to the top spot for the fourth consecutive weekend with an estimated $15.3 million in ticket sales, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The hit musical starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, among others, lifted its international total to $356.4 million, a far better performance than its $142.2 million domestic take.

Meanwhile, Pixar’s “WALL-E” finished second with $11.1 million after opening in several new markets, lifting its overseas total to $215.4 million. Ben Stiller’s “Tropic Thunder” followed at No. 3 with a weekend gross of $7.4 million and a total of $41 million.

At No. 4, Universal’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” took home $5.6 million, reaching an international total of $283.2 million. Following in fifth place was D.J. Caruso’s action hit “Eagle Eye,” which collected $4.2 million in 13 territories.

Other results from the international box office: “Wanted” scored $4 million to bring its total haul to $182.6 million; Peter Berg’s Will Smith vehicle “Hancock” climbed to $391.7 million after this weekend’s earnings of $2.3 million; “The Dark Knight” reached $460 million; and “Iron Man” earned another $2 million.

Will 'Iron Man 2' go 3D?

How about watching Iron Man fight the bad guys in 3D? At a recent press conference to promote the upcoming DVD of "Iron Man," director Jon Favreau also talked a bit about the sequel to the successful action flick with Robert Downey Jr.

As reported by Collider.com, Favreau said he would love to shoot part of "Iron Man 2" in IMAX. Additionally, he would enjoy doing the sequel in 3D.

Favreau said that all this depends on the budget, which at this stage has not been set or announced. Furthermore, Favreau said people should expect many surprises in the follow-up, including more sophisticated characters.

While I personally do not mind "Iron Man 2" coming to IMAX as well, I am not sure about that 3D idea. Sure, 3D is cool, but I had so much fun watching "Iron Man" in the regular format. I don't know if I'd be able to experience the same excitement wearing these glasses.

Why not really focus about story and characters first? All we really want is an awesome sequel to an awesome summer movie. What do you guys think? Do you like the idea of "Iron Man" going 3D? Share your thoughts below.

Work on 'Iron Man' sequel has begun

In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, helmer Jon Favreau said work on the "Iron Man" sequel has already begun.

I know that's not exactly the most exciting information, but at least we know the project is already in development.

Marvel and Paramount are shooting for a late April release date in 2010. The first film opened this May and pulled in $316.4 million domestically.

Penning the script for the anticipated sequel is Justin Terhoux, who most recently co-wrote Ben Stiller's "Tropic Thunder." His acting credits also include "Mulholland Dr.," "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "Miami Vice."

In order to offer fans a little treat during the wait for the "Iron Man" DVD release, Access Hollywood recently released a deleted scene from Jon Favreau's accclaimed action hit, which will hit shelves Sept. 30, 2008. No, it's not an explosive action scene, but it's hot enough to capture your attention for a few minutes.

In the scene below, Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) sets up a party in Dubai, where he's embraced by plenty of good-looking women. Need I say more? Check out the clip below.
