Movie Review: "Halloween II"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: August 29, 2009

The players: Director: Rob Zombie, Writer: Rob Zombie, Cast: Tyler Mane, Brad Dourif, Chris Hardwick, Scout Taylor-Compton, Malcolm McDowell

Facts of interest: "Halloween II" is apparently Zombie's last flick in the series.

The plot: Michael Myers is coming home to do what he does best: kill people in the most brutal ways possible.

Our thoughts: Let me start off by saying that you can count me among those unsatisfied with Rob Zombie ‘s 2007 remake of “Halloween.” No, it was not a total disaster in my book, but the film simply failed to impress and intrigue me. Now Zombie strikes back with a follow-up, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s a tad worse than his previous effort.

What to expect at the movies in August '09

August of 2009 has arrived, and it will be quite the busy movie month. July was not a bad month, and although some films really disappointed me, others definitely kept me entertained. But hey, that's a thing of the past now. Let's look at what this year's August has in store for us hungry moviegoers:

The first weekend of the month is certainly action-packed, as Stephen Sommers' "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" rolls onto the big screen. I've heared it's silly but wildly amusing, and hey, sometimes, that's exactly what I'm looking for in a summer flick. Plus, it's got Sienna Miller kicking butt and wearing ridiculously tight costumes, so, what more could you want?

Also opening on the 7th is "Julie & Julia," a comedy with the great Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, who already proved they've got what it takes to star in a film together. For those prefering something more intense than a bunch of cooking/life lessons, this weekend's also got "A Perfect Getaway" lined up, a thriller with Milla Jovovich. Does that one get me excited? Not so much.

Rob Zombie to return for 'Halloween 2'?

Last month we learned that the sequel to 2007's remake "Halloween" would launch into production early next year, but one question remained in the open: who's on board to direct?

Well, according to Shock Till You Drop, the latest rumor is that Rob Zombie will return to helm the follow-up. This remains unconfirmed at this stage, so make sure you take this with a grain of salt.

The only other thing we know at this stage is that Tyler Mane will reprise his role as Michael Myers.

If Zombie returned for "Halloween 2," what will happen to his other upcoming project, "Tyrannosaurus Rex"? Word out there on the Web is that it will probably be put on hold for now.

Whatever happens, I still don't think more "Halloween" remaking is a good idea. Feel free to share your thoughts on this below.
