Halle Berry to ride the 'Dark Tide'

Halle Berry

Here's a quick Halle Berry casting update. The Oscar-winning actress is in talks to star in "Dark Tide," an action flick to be directed by Clark Johnson, helmer of "S.W.A.T." and "The Sentinel."

Amy Sorlie wrote the script, which follows a diving instructor returning to the deep after a dangerous encounter with a Great White shark. At this stage, that seems like one heck of a boring ride.

Daily news dose: Lucy Punch joins Woody Allen flick; 'Twilight' wins big at MTV Movie Awards

Here's your dose of film news for June 1, 2009:

• Lucy Punch, whose credits include "The Class" and "Hot Fuzz," will replace Nicole Kidman in Woody Allen's upcoming film. Plot details are still kept under wraps, but the cast also includes Freida Pinto, Naomi Watts, Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas and Josh Brolin. (Variety)

• Halle Berry is in negotiations to star in Paul Verhoeven's "The Surrogate," a thriller based on the book by Kathryn Mackel. The story follows a couple who discovers the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is completely nuts. Berry last starred in "Things We Lost in the Fire." (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Oscar-nominated actor Michael Shannon ("Revolutionary Road") is almost set to star in "The Runaways," the biopic of the popular girl rock band. He's joining Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart. The plot will focus on the formation of The Runaways all the way to the end of their career as a group. (THR)

• Because I don't think the MTV Movie Awards deserve a separate entry, here are some winners: "Twilight" wins best movie; Kristen Stewart wins best actress; Zac Efron wins best actor; Heath Ledger wins best villain (only decent outcome); and Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson win the award for best kiss. Yeah, the MTV Movie Awards suck indeed.

Daily news dose: Halle Berry is 'Doris Payne;' Annable joins 'Wedlocked'

Here's your dose of daily film news for Feb. 17, 2009:

• Halle Berry is in talks to star in "Who Is Doris Payne," a fact-based film written by Eunetta Boon. The film focuses on the career of an international jewel thief. Berry was last seen in "Things We Lost in the Fire." She is currently filming "Frankie and Alice" for Geoffrey Sax. (Variety)

• Dave Annable has signed on to star in Rob Hedden's romantic comedy "Wedlocked," about a pet photographer who gets involved with a mobster and his daughter (Katharine McPhee). Annable's credits include "Little Black Book" and television's "Brothers & Sisters." (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Marc-Andre Grondin, Ellen Barkin and Famke Janssen have boarded "The Chameleon," a thriller about a mysterious reunion between a young man and his family. Jean Paul Salome is directing a script he co-wrote with Natalie Carter. Nick Stahl and Emilie de Ravin round out the cast. (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Hilary Duff is apparently set to star alongside Toby Keith, Pell James and Bruce McGill in Shane Dax Taylor's "Provinces of Night," based on William Gay's novel. Duff most recently starred in "War, Inc." She's also on board of the unnecessary "The Story of Bonnie and Clyde." (PW via Joblo)
