Trailer and photos for Miley Cyrus' 'Last Song'

Miley Cyrus in The Last Song

Miley Cyrus returns to the big screen in "The Last Song," and guess what: she won't show up as Hannah Montana. Trust me, it's true. A trailer for the drama is now online, and you can watch it below.

The film directed by Julie Anne Robinson is based on author Nicholas Sparks' new novel, which he wrote with Cyrus in mind. He simultaneously prepped the script for this upcoming big-screen adaptation.

The central plot of "Song" follows a rebellious teenager (Cyrus) who is forced to spend the summer with her father (Greg Kinnear). He left the family years earlier, so he now tries to reconnect with his kids.

Action-packed trailer for 'Green Zone' hits!

Matt Damon in Green Zone trailer

Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon return to big-screen action in "Green Zone," and as this new trailer for the film suggests, it pretty much looks like a Jason Bourne flick taking place in Iraq during the war.

Still, as you can see below, "Zone" looks action-packed and intense, and as long as it's as original and vibrant as the Bourne films, I'm totally in. After all, Greengrass is a a director I very much appreciate.

On top of that, Damon always looks good in action roles like these, and the guy behind the screenplay isn't a nobody either. It's Brian Helgeland, who worked on "Mystic River" and "L.A. Confidential."

Greg Kinnear, Kelly Preston to sing 'Last Song'

Greg Kinnear and Kelly Preston have signed on to starr alongside Miley Cyrus in Julie Anne Robinson's upcoming drama The Last Song.

Greg Kinnear and Kelly Preston have signed on to star alongside Miley Cyrus in Julie Anne Robinson's upcoming drama "The Last Song."

The Disney flick is based on Nicholas Sparks' upcoming novel, which he wrote with Cyrus in mind. He simultaneously prepped the script for the big-screen adaptation.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the central plot of "Song" follows a rebellious teenager (Cyrus) who is forced to spend the summer with her father (Kinnear). Only problem: he left her years earlier. Preston will play her mother.

To be honest, this story sounds a lot like "Life as a House," a tearjerker I admit I really enjoyed. Let's hope Sparks injected the script with something innovative.

Kinnear was recently seen in "Flash of Genius." As for Preston, she'll soon star in "Old Dogs." "The Last Song" is currently shooting, and a release date is set for Jan. 8, 2010.

'Ghost Town' web reviews

Ricky Gervais playing a self-centered dentist who can see dead people? It may sound like a crazy idea, but David Koepp's latest comedy "Ghost Town" is a refreshing little film that sure knows how to make audiences laugh (Read my review here). But what about the online critics? Do they agree with me on this one? Let's find out what some of them have to say:

Cinematical's Eric D. Snider: "Personally I think he's hilarious, and if the film is little more than his attempt to break out of the "cult following" category and find some mainstream American success, more power to him."

• Josh Tyler at Cinema Blend: "The result is a tenderhearted, charming comedy which should at last wake the world up to the immense, raw talent of one Ricky Gervais."

• Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "The film never sinks too far into the sap, it keeps its comedy edge by only dwindling into the cliché near the end for its moment of personal redemption, but it offers up enough twists and surprises along the way to make any unoriginal moments forgivable."

Review: "Ghost Town"

Seen on: September 19, 2008

The players: Director: David Koepp, Writers: David Koepp, John Kamps, Cast: Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear, Alan Ruck, Téa Leoni, Jeff Hiller

Facts of interest: Koepp also directed "Secret Window" and wrote "Panic Room" and "Spider-Man."

The plot: When a self-centered dentist suddenly dies but returns to life seven minutes later, he starts to see a bunch of dead people who all hit him up for a favor.

Our quick thoughts: Ricky Gervais, the man behind the original “The Office,” is not necessarily the kind of actor you regularly see on the big screen. And that’s a shame, because in David Koepp’s thoroughly adorable comedy “Ghost Town,” he delivers a hilarious performance that lightens up the entire movie and generates plenty of big laughs. The funny Brit definitely fits in, and I can only hope we’ll start to see him in lead roles more often.
