Nick Nolte boards O'Connor's 'Warrior'

Nick Nolte is set to star in Gavin O'Connor's upcoming drama "Warrior" for Lionsgate. Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Morrison are also on board to star.

According to Variety, Nolte will play a Vietnam vet and steel mill worker whose alcohol problems pretty much destroyed his family.

After sobering up, however, he's ready to reconnect with his youngest son (Hardy) and train him in martial arts. The latter will later face his older brother (Edgerton).

O'Connor, whose credits include "Miracle" and "Pride and Glory," is directing a script he wrote with Anthony Tambakis.

Nolte was last seen in "Tropic Thunder." He will also be seen in Olivier Dahan's upcoming film "My Own Love Song."

As for Hardy, his credits include "RocknRolla" and "Layer Cake." Edgerton starred in "King Arthur" and "Smokin' Aces."

Vince Vaughn to star in ‘Sunny and 68’

Vince Vaughn will take over the world of poker in “Sunny and 68,” a project Universal is acquiring for Gavin O’Connor to direct.

According to Variety, Vaughn will play a poker superstar whose alcoholism (among other things) causes him to loose $500,000 in an instant. With no money in his pocket, he decides to head home to retrieve some cash he’s been sending his mother.

Upon his return to New York, however, he discovers his mom is dying of cancer. Additionally, he finds out she’s been raising a 5-year-old girl who’s actually his daughter.

O’Connor, whose “Pride and Glory” opened last weekend, is directing a script he wrote with Anthony Tambakis.

Vaughn will next star alongside Reese Witherspoon in “Four Christmases.” He’s also gearing up for Peter Billingsley’s comedy “Couples Retreat.”

O’Connor, whose credits include Walt Disney’s ice hockey drama “Miracle,” is prepping “Warrior,” an action flick he’ll shoot next year.

Review: "Pride and Glory"

Seen on: October 24, 2008

The players: Director: Gavin O'Connor, Writers: Joe Carnahan, Gavin O'Connor, Gregory O'Connor, Cast: Edward Norton, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Ehle, Noah Emmerich, Lake Bell, Jon Voight

Facts of interest: Pushed back numerous times.

The plot: Edward Norton plays a NYPD detective who tries to hunt down a criminal who took out four cops. During his investigation, he finds out his own brother-in-law (Colin Farrell) may be involved in a massive corruption that could endager the entire police department.

Our thoughts: The story of the corrupt police department is not exactly a new one, and Gavin O’Connor’s “Pride and Glory” is the epitome of a lame crime drama sticking to the conventions of the genre without taking a step forward and supplying audiences with something they haven’t seen yet. It just looks and sounds all too familiar to enjoy.

'Pride and Glory' web reviews

In Gavin O'Connor's crime drama "Pride and Glory," Edward Norton and Colin Farrell play two cops who tumble into a moral dilemma when their own family is pulled into a corruption investigation. Sounds a bit like "We Own the Night" to me. Anyway, let's see what the Web's critics say about the flick:

Cinema Blend's Katey Rich: "It does an excellent job pinpointing the racial tensions that the NYPD have a way of stirring up, and the action scenes provide their own appropriate thrill."

• Ron Henriques at LatinoReview: "Some nice dramatic work amongst the four leads but in the end it all becomes them just yelling at each other."
