Franck Tabouring The future of the United States economy doesn’t look too bright, but it certainly doesn’t look as grim as in Barthelemy Grossmann’s upcoming horror thriller “Fortuna.”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film is set in 2100 and envisions an Earth where a collapsed economy and climate crises have eliminated the middle class, leaving a few very wealthy and the teeming masses in severe poverty.
In order to prevent from people from going nuts, the elite sets up a bloody game where one in a thousand receives the opportunity to join the upper class. Little to the contestants know they’re in for something deadly.
Dominic Monaghan and Freddy Rodriguez have signed on to star in the project. Together with Grossmann, they will play three desperate men competing for the jackpot.
Monaghan, who played Merry in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, is also known for his role as Charlie Pace on TV’s “Lost.” He’s also starring in Gavin Hood’s upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
As for Rodriguez, he starred in “Six Feet Under” and “Ugly Betty.” His next big-screen project is Alfredo De Villa’s Christmas flick “Nothing Like the Holidays.”
