Big 'Transformers 3' update from Michael Bay

Michael Bay's "Transformers 3" is scheduled for a release July 1, 2011, and that means production for the third installment in the popular series will start soon. Bay just posted a rather big update about the film on his Web site, and his announcements are pretty interesting indeed. Let's check out what he had to say:

"Transformers 3 has been going very well. We are going to shoot in LA, Chicago, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, Africa, Moscow, and China. On the talent front, we just locked in Frances McDormand and John Malkovich. Both amazing actors I've always wanted to work with. We also just got Ken Jeong..."

Okay, so far, so good. Now on to some Autobot news he shared: "We start shooting pre-shoots in about one month. I also was at a Ferrari charity event this week raising money for a hospital being built by Ferrari in Haiti. I announced that night the newest Autobot to join Transformers: the Ferrari 458 Italia."

Review: "Burn After Reading"

Seen on: September 12, 2008

The players: Directors: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, Writers: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, Cast: George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Brad Pitt, Richard Jenkins

Extra thought: I'd say the style of "Burn After Reading" comes close to that of "The Ladykillers" and "Intolerable Cruelty."

The plot: Two gym employees try to get rich after accidentally stumbling across the classified files of a CIA analyst.

Our quick thoughts: After taking home four Oscars and countless other wins around the world with last year’s spectacular “No Country For Old Men,” Joel and Ethan Coen now return with something a little lighter and a lot sillier. “Burn After Reading” is definitely not their best comedy yet, but the film’s bizarre plot and eccentric characters definitely make for a funny ride.

'Burn After Reading' web reviews

Joel and Ethan Coen are finally back in action, and while I have not had the chance yet to see "Burn After Reading," I have to admit I am really looking forward to it. Starring Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, George Clooney and John Malkovich, among others, this silly comedy centers on two gym teachers who stumble across and then try to sell a CIA agent's secret memoirs. Let's see what the online film fans have to say about it:

• Josh Tyler at Cinema Blend: "More than anything, Burn feels like the Coen brothers trying to re-create the lightning in a bottle magic of The Big Lebowski by taking a scattershot approach to comedy writing."

Cinematical's Kim Voynar: "The Coens intertwine all these separate lives into one piece of storytelling that's quickly paced, twisted and often laugh-out-loud funny."

‘Burn After Reading’ opens Venice Film Festival

Ethan and Joel Coen’s crime comedy “Burn After Reading” opened the 65th edition of the Venice Film Festival Wednesday, with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton and Frances McDormand taking over the red carpet for the premiere.

The film follows two gym teachers who accidentally stumble across and then try to sell a disc containing the memoirs of a CIA agent. John Malkovich, J.K. Simmons and Richard Jenkins co-star.

"The film talks about some incredibly idiotic people who do some really stupid things," Clooney told reporters at the film’s press conference.

Variety reports the “Michael Clayton” star also rescued Pitt from a horde of questions about fatherhood. You can read all about that by clicking right here.

But talking about the film, the Coens said, “We did a spy movie because we hadn't done one before. We could have done a dog movie or an outer space movie, but we ended up doing this.”
