New 'Thor' photo: Anthony Hopkins as Odin

Anthony Hopkins as Odin in Thor

Here's a good first look at Anthony Hopkins as Odin in Kenneth Branagh's upcoming action adventure "Thor," which is on track for a release May 6, 2011. Also in the still above is Thor (with hammer) and Loki.

Chris Hemsworth plays Thor, whereas Loki is played by Tom Hiddleston. The cast also includes Joshua Dallas, Natalie Portman, Clark Gregg, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Idris Elba and Stellan Skarsgård.

Now, in related news, "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger" will be released in 3D. The bad news is both films are shot in 2D and will be converted to 3D. To tell you the truth, this was inevitable.

That's it! Chris Evans is 'Captain America'

Chris Evans has accepted the lead role in Joe Johnston's upcoming superhero movie "The First Avenger: Captain America." Heat Vision exclusively reports sources close to the project confirmed the deal, even though Marvel would not confirm anything officially. I bet we'll hear from them in the coming days.

Evans will play Steve Rogers, who turns into Captain America. We've heard a lot of things about possible candidates for the role recently, but the search is now finally over. This won't be Evans' first gig playing a superhero. He previously starred as Johnny Storm in the "Fantastic Four" flicks.

Joe Johnston gives 'Captain America' update!

Joe Johnston's "The Wolfman" is scheduled to hit theaters in two weeks, but the director is already working on his next big project: "The First Avenger: Captain America," which is due in theaters in 2011.

Johnston recently talked to the Film Journal, and he even offered a short update on how things are moving along on "America." "We're in prep," he said. "Rick Heinrichs is production-designing..."

"We have eight or ten really talented artists, and we all just sit around all day and draw pictures and say, 'Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we could do this?'," he said. He likes this phase because money doesn't matter.

As far as the film's beginning is concerned, he said it will start "in 1942, 1943." "The stuff in the ’60s and ’70s [comic books] we're sort of avoiding. We're going back to the ’40s, and then forward..."

'First Avenger: Captain America' is coming soon!

Joe Johnston's "The First Avenger: Captain America" may hit the production stage very soon. The film is currently slated for a release 2011, and according to the director, filming could start this summer.

That's right. Even though we haven't heard that much about the flick in a while, Johnston is ready to shoot this thing starting June. That's according to the folks at Fangoria, who recently interviewed him.

Johnston's new film "The Wolfman" is opening Feb. 12, 2010. He spoke to Fangoria from the art department of "The First Avenger: Captain America," a clear indication he's in full pre-production mode.

‘Captain America’ finds director!

Joe Johnston is the man who will be directing Marvel’s “First Avenger: Captain Amercia,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Johnston, who worked in the visual effects departments on “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and three “Star Wars” movies, made his directorial debut with “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” in 1989.

Other directing credits include “Jumaji,” “Jurassic Park III” and “Hidalgo.” Johnston is currently wrapping up “The Wolf Man,” with Benicio Del Toro in the lead.

“Captain America” is scheduled for release May 6, 2011. No writers are on board yet, but Marvel is trying to find someone as quickly as possible.
