Teaser for 'Nanny McPhee' sequel hits

A first teaser trailer for Susanna White's upcoming sequel "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang" has debuted on the Web earlier today, and you can check it out after the jump. It's short, so don't expect much.

In the follow-up to the 2005 family flick, Emma Thompson returns as the strict nanny who uses magic to get energetic kids under control and battle a villain while she's at it. The film opens in 2010.

As you can see below, the teaser is short and doesn't give us much story. It does gives us flying pigs though, and to be honest, that's not exactly stunning. I hope the "Big Bang" has more in store for us.

That said, count me among those who highly enjoyed the first film. It was goofy and fun, heartfelt and innovative, and it's something I can easily watch again. Plus, Emma Thompson is great, as usual.

Emma Thompson to return as 'Nanny McPhee'

Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson recently confirmed she won’t return as Sybil Trelawney in the next Harry Potter film because she’s gearing up for a “Nanny McPhee” follow-up.

Talking to MTV, Thompson said she is more emotionally attached to “McPhee,” the touching 2005 family adventure she co-wrote and starred in.

“I’m making my own ‘Nanny McPhee’ next year. They mean much more to me,” she told MTV.

In the original film directed by Kirk Jones, Thompson played a nanny who uses all kinds of magic tricks calm down a single father’s children.

Currently titled “Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang,” the film is apparently set 100 years after its predecessor.

“It’s about two families: A family of country children, and a family of town children, [both] during the war. So it’s about evacuees, and the father is away at war. So this time, the lone parent is the mother,” Thompson said.

Thompson will also reprise her role as screenwriter for the new film, which is scheduled to head into production next year.

Thompson will next be seen alongside Dustin Hoffman in Joel Hopkins’ romantic drama “Last Chance Harvey.” She will also star in Richard Curtis’s next comedy, “The Boat That Rocked.”

Final word: I thoroughly enjoyed “Nanny McPhee,” and knowing Thompson will return to work on the screenplay herself, I have to admit this is certainly a second film I am looking forward to.

Trailer radar: 'Last Chance Harvey'

Here's one to watch out for: Joel Hopkins' upcoming romance "Last Chance Harvey," in which Dustin Hoffman plays a low-spirited man who meets a woman (Emma Thompson) during a London trip and discovers it's never too late to fall in love again.

The trailer for the film is online, and you should definitely check it out below. My first reaction is pretty positive. Hoffman and Thompson seem to share a solid chemistry, and the story, though simple, seems quite romantic and engaging as well.

"Last Chance Harvey" opens Jan. 23, 2009. Feel free to share your feelings about the trailer below.
