Eli Roth developing 'Species' & 'Thanksgiving'

Eli Roth

Filmmaker Eli Roth is moving back to writing and directing after spending some time producing and acting. The "Hostel" helmer is currently developing two upcoming projects in the genres of sci-fi and horror.

Roth said he is about to finish his script for "Endangered Species," a sci-fi flick he will probably direct. He also said he's writing "Thanksgiving," a film based on one of the trailers we saw during "Grindhouse."

'Inglourious Basterds' web reviews

Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds

Quentin Tarantino's amazing WWII drama "Inglourious Basterds" is killing its box office competition, but what do the Web's critics have to say about the film starring Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger and Christoph Waltz? Here's what:

CinemaBlend's Josh Tyler: "'Inglourious Basterds' is a flawed premise turned into a flawed story full of characters so unique and vibrant, delivering dialogue so intense and captivating, that it’s worth putting up with what’s missing."

• Todd Gilchrist @ Cinematical: "Suffice it to say it's undeniable that the film could easily be trimmed by 20 minutes of so without losing its emotional core – and indeed, perhaps picking up a stronger dramatic momentum."

Our thoughts: That basterd has done it again! Quentin Tarantino serves up a bunch of bloody Nazi scalps and plenty of other memorable moments in his “Inglourious Basterds,” an explosive war drama that has already earned a safe spot on the list of my absolute favorite films of the year. Let’s go do some huntin’…

Can you handle these 'Inglourious Basterds' clips?

Eli Roth and Brad Pitt

The one film I recommend you should see at all cost this weekend is Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds." It may not exactly be the Tarantino you're used to, but it's a fascinating Tarantino nonetheless. If you're not entirely sure yet what to make of it, here are a bunch of clips from the film. Check them out after the jump.

As I'm sure you know by now, "Basterds" follows a group of Jewish-American soliders who are sent to brutally kill every Nazi they come across. Brad Pitt stars as Lt. Aldo Raine, leader of the bloody Basterds, who show no mercy when they cross path with one of Hitler's soldiers. Yes, these guys are blowing some shit up, I can guarantee you that!

Eli Roth gets his own 'Basterd' poster

Eli Roth in Inglourious Basterds

On Sunday I stumbled across a new "Inglourious Basterds" poster of Brad Pitt, and now Eli Roth's got one too. Check it out after the jump (I still think Pitt looks a lot more like a basterd). Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, the brutal WWII film follows a group of Jewish-American soliders who are sent to brutally kill every Nazi they come across.

Mike Myers, Michael Fassbender, B.J. Novak, Diane Kruger, Til Schweiger, Christoph Waltz, Raul Rust, Samuel L. Jackson and Maggie Cheung co-star. All I've seen from the film so far is the short footage from the teaser trailer, and while I am certainly excited about the upcoming release of a new Tarantino flick, I'm not quite sure yet what to make out of this thing.

Austin Powers is a ’Bastard’

How surprising is this? Mike Myers has signed on to star in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming WWII drama “Inglorious Bastards,” according to Variety.

Myers is set to play British Gen. Ed Fenech, who is part of a plan to terminate a bunch of Nazi leaders.

Only last week, Brad Pitt officially joined the project, which is scheduled to head into production in Germany this October. Pitt plays Lt. Aldo Raine, leader of the Jewish resistance.

Also on board of the ultraviolent flick is Eli Roth, while Simon Pegg, B.J. Novack and several others are still in talks to join.

Aside from the surprise of Eli Roth taking in on the action in “Bastards,” I’ve been pretty happy with the cast announcements so far. But Myers? After the fiasco that was “The Love Guru,” all Myers deserves is a timeout.

Brad Pitt officially joins ‘Inglorious Bastards’

Over the past week we’ve heard and read quite a lot about the casting of Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming WWII drama “Inglorious Bastards,” and now things slowly seem to be coming together. Well, it’s about time.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Pitt has now officially joined the project. That’s right, Mr. Jolie has signed on to play Lt. Aldo Raine, leader of the Jewish resistance.

Also in negotiations to star in the violent drama is Simon Pegg, who would star as a British lieutenant. Additionally, Tarantino is in talks with Nastassja Kinski for the role of a German actress.

Just a few days ago, “Hostel” director Eli Roth also jumped on board. He will play one of the gang of Nazi hunters.

I’m glad the pre-production on Tarantino’s flick is moving ahead at a quick pace. If he really wants to have the film ready for the 2009 edition of the Cannes Film Festival, it’s about time to hit the sets and start shooting, literally.

‘Hostel’ director joins ‘Bastards’ cast

Variety reports director Eli Roth has joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming WWII drama “Inglorious Bastards.”

It’s not the first time the “Hostel” helmer appears in a Tarantino flick. He most recently had a minor role in “Death Proof,” one of the two “Grindhouse” flicks.

Apparently, Roth is expected to play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz, one of the film’s ruthless Nazi hunters. Roth’s directing credits include “Cabin Fever.”

Also in talks to join “Bastards” is Brad Pitt, who would jump into the role of Lieut. Aldo Raine. You can read all about this right here.

“Inglorious Bastards” just recently found a home at Universal. Production for the ultraviolent film is scheduled to being this fall.

Roth breaking into the acting business? I have no idea how that would turn out. I guess he has the face to appear in front of the camera, but does he really have the talent? I guess we’ll see.
