More new 'Iron Man 2' photos pop up online

If you checked out the recent photos from Jon Favreau's upcoming sequel "Iron Man2" and liked what you saw, I encourage you to check out these new stills from the anticipated sequel, which hits theaters May 7, 2010. I know, it's a long wait, right?

Anyway, the pics above and below give you another good (and pretty hot) look at Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and even Don Cheadle as James Rhodes, the role that previously belonged to Terrence Howard.

This time around, Iron Man has two enemies he has to go up against: Mickey Rourke's Whiplash, who builds his own version of Stark's cool suit, and Sam Rockwell's Justin Hammer, a weapons manufacturer wants to bring down Stark.

Trailer radar: ‘Hotel for Dogs’

Do you love dogs? Do you enjoy seeing them on the big screen? If you do, make sure you check out “Hotel for Dogs” on Jan. 16, 2009.

In the film directed by Thor Freudenthal, a group of friends rescue every stray dog in town by offering them shelter in a vacant building.

Emma Roberts, Jake T. Austin, Troy Gentile, Lisa Kudrow and Don Cheadle star. Check out the latest trailer for the film after the jump.

I’m sick of dog flicks, really, but at least these don’t talk. That’s always some form of consolation.

Robert Downey Jr. IS Tony Stark in ‘Avengers’

Great news for all Robert Downey Jr. fans! Marvel Studios today announced the actor will appear as Tony Stark in the upcoming “The Avengers.”

In the film, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk and others team up to battle the biggest foe they've ever faced.

We obviously knew Downey Jr. would return as Stark in “Iron Man 2,” but this is definitely an awesome update. Who could have honestly replaced him? Right, nobody!

Marvel also announced that Jon Favreau will serve as executice producer on the “Avengers” project, which is currently scheduled for a 2011 release. Favreau also returns behind the camera for the anticipated “Iron Man” sequel.

In related news, the studio officially confirmed Don Cheadle will play James Rhodes in “Iron Man 2” and “The Avengers.”

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, said he’s excited about working with Cheadle.

“It has already become apparent as we prep the movie for production, that the dynamic between Robert and Don will take 'Iron Man 2' to new heights," he said.

As I mentioned last week, I absolutely loved Terrence Howard as Rhodes in the first movie, and while I’m sad he’ll not return, I’m sure Cheadle will do just fine.

Don Cheadle to replace Howard in ‘Iron Man 2’

I was really looking forward to Terrence Howard’s return as Jim Rhodes in Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man 2,” but according to the Hollywood Reporter, the actor won’t be part of the cast anymore.

The trade says Marvel Studios was unable to close a deal with the actor. No official reasons have been released at this stage, but rumors are Howard and Marvel couldn’t agree on the financial aspects.

The good news is Don Cheadle has signed on to replace Howard as Rhodes, Tony Stark’s best friend and the future War Machine. Whether Cheadle handles the role as smoothly as Howard remains to be seen.

Downey Jr. will return as Stark in the sequel, which is scheduled for release in 2010. Justin Theroux is working on the script, with Favreau back in the director’s chair.

While I adore Howard as an actor, I am sure Cheadle is a solid choice for the part. Last seen in “Traitor,” he’s currently shooting “Brooklyn’s Finest” for Antoine Fuqua.

What do you guys think about this replacement? Excited? Disappointed? Sound off below.

Memorable Trailers #5 - 'Crash'

The trailer for Paul Haggis' Oscar-winning "Crash" is yet another beautiful preview I absolutely had to include in the "Memorable Trailers" series. Samuel Barber's splendid "Adagio for Strings, op. 11" and Bird York's moving "In the Deep" give this footage its incredible power, adding a lot of soul to the short introduction of the film's main characters.

As it turned out, the film is just as magnificient as its great trailer, which I remember couldn't help but watch over and over again in anticipation for the release. Sit back and enjoy "Crash." It's a film not to miss.

Review: "Traitor"

Seen on: August 30, 2008

The players: Director: Jeffrey Nachmanoff, Writers: Jeffrey Nachmanoff, Steve Martin (Story), Cast: Don Cheadle, Archie Panjabi, Guy Pearce, Lorena Gale, Aly Khan, Said Taghmaoui, Jeff Daniels, Neal McDonough

Facts of interest: Jeffrey Nachmanoff also wrote the script for Roland Emmerich's "The Day After Tomorrow."

The plot: Two FBI agents travel the globe in search of a former Special Operations officer who is tied to a terrorist cell.

Our quick thoughts: In Jeffrey Nachmanoff’s “Traitor,” Don Cheadle stars as Samir Horn, a former U.S. Special Operations officer who disappeared from the surface of the Earth after getting involved with foreign terrorist cells. Worried about Horn’s involvement in future international attacks, the FBI sends agents Clayton (Guy Pearce) and Archer (Neal McDonough) on a tricky manhunt, unaware of the fact that the man they’re looking for may have a different agenda.

‘Traitor’ web reviews

I have to admit I totally forgot about the Wednesday release of Jeffrey Nachmanoff’s “Traitor.” Starring Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce and Jeff Daniels, the film centers on a U.S. special operative who turns his back on his government and starts working with a terrorist group. Let’s quickly check out what the Web’s critics have to say about it:

• Katey Rich at CinemaBlend: "First-time director Jeffrey Nachmanoff handles things competently enough, and anyone who's worn out on Tom Clancy novels could probably do worse."

LatinoReview's Ron Henriques: "With today's current events, 'Traitor' walks on thin ice with its story, but succeeds at entertaining while not becoming too political."

• Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "It's not like 'Traitor' is a bad film, it's just that it is a film we have seen over and over again with a little bit of FBI vs. terrorist cat and mouse game guiding the plot."
