Ten Worst Films of 2008

As 2008 comes to a close, it's time for me to pick the flicks I hated most this year. It was pretty tough this year to pick these 10 primarily because I've seen so many films that sucked, but here's the final list:

10. College
Deb Hagan's "College" may not be the most disastrous film of 2008, but it sure stinks big time. This tale of three idiotic high school friends trying to hook up with girls during their first college visit is neither funny nor original, offering viewers nothing but scatological jokes, naked breasts and embarrassingly terrible dialogue. This one's a massive bore! Read more about it here.

Five worst films of the summer of '08

The summer season at the movies has come to and end, and it's time to look back at what films really stank this year. Here are the five worst films of the summer of '08.

5. MIRRORS
While he kicks serious butt on television, Kiefer Sutherland is not exactly a hero on the big screen, and his stunt in "Mirrors" is pretty much disastrous. Besides a series of cheap shock effects and a couple of ridiculous twists, Alexandre Aja's disappointing horror remake barely has anything to offer for the return of the price of admission. Scares and an intriguing story are absent.

Box Office: 'Tropic Thunder' prevails yet again

By Franck Tabouring
Weekend of August 29 – 31, 2008

Tropic Thunder” ruled the North American box office for the third consecutive weekend with $11.5 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Ben Stiller’s R-rated action comedy easily protected its No. 1 spot from this week’s four new releases, lifting its domestic total to $83.8 million. Released by DreamWorks, the film centers on a group of actors as they fight for survival in a dangerous jungle.

Debuting in second place with only $9.7 million was 20th Century Fox’s science-fiction adventure “Babylon A.D.,” which stars Vin Diesel as a mercenary who escorts a young woman (Mélanie Thierry) from Mongolia to New York City.

Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s summer hit “The Dark Knight” climbed back up to No. 3, earning $8.7 million and reaching a total gross of an impressive $502.4 million after seven weeks in release.

Review: "Disaster Movie"

Seen on: August 30, 2008

The players: Director: Jason Friedberg, Aaron Seltzer, Writers: Jason Friedberg, Aaron Seltzer, Cast: Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minnillo, Gary "G-Thang" Johnson, Nicole Parker, Crista Flanagan, Carmen Electra, Kimberly Kardashian

Facts of interest: None whatsoever.

The plot: A group of idiots struggle to survive a series of natural disasters, including twisters, asteroids and earthquakes.

Our quick thoughts: If “Disaster Movie” is currently topping one chart, it’s IMDb’s Bottom 100 list. I honestly don’t know what we did wrong to deserve this, but Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer decided to punish us yet again with another one of their stupid spoofs that not many people out there want to see.

Then again, the sad truth is that there are still plenty of people out there getting a kick out of this crap. Anyway, this time the plot centers on a group of idiots struggling to survive as the world comes to an end. In an attempt to save one of their friends, they must fight their way through a series of earthquakes, asteroids and, believe it or not, an awkward encounter with flesh-eating chipmunks.

Watch two lame 'Disaster Movie' clips

If you haven't had enough of awful spoofs yet, you may want to check out "Disaster Movie" when it opens Aug. 29, 2008. In the tradition of the "Scary Movie" series, "Epic Movie" and "Meet the Spartans," Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer's upcoming "disaster" takes great pleasure in ridiculing every big Hollywood flick out there.

Today we have two new clips from the film. The first one was released by MTV and spoofs a scene from "Juno." In the second one... well, see for yourself. I hope you enjoy them more than I did.
