'Piranha 3D' gets a sequel already

Alexandre Aja's "Piranha 3D" didn't exactly explode at the box office, but it made enough money for Dimension Films to go ahead and announce a sequel. And yes, many critics actually praised the film...

“We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving PIRANHA 3D, but cheering for it. And it’s fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it," said producer Mark Canton.

No other details have been released at this point. "Piranha 3D" is now playing, and it stars Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O'Connell, Jessica Szohr, Steven R. McQueen, Eli Roth, Adam Scott and Kelly Brook.

'Spy Kids 4' is happening... soon!

Robert Rodriguez is getting ready to shoot "Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World," and ERC BoxOffice says the film will hit theaters via Dimension Films Aug. 19, 2011. I bet it will open in 3D as well. Word is Rodriguez will reboot the franchise, which also means we could be in for more sequels. The question is: do we want to see another "Spy Kids"? I enjoyed the first and second, but the third sucked.

"Spy Kids" opened in 2001 and bagged $112 million on a $35 million budget. "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams" hit cinemas in 2002 and earned $85 million (budget was $39 million). Finally, "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over" was released in 2003, and it generated $111 million. It too cost $39 million. So yeah, in terms of money, it makes sense for Dimension to make a fourth one. Personally, I couldn't care less about this.

Dimension Films has now officially greenlit "Scream 4," and the film is set to hit theaters April 12, 2011. As Variety reports, the film will shoot this spring, and Wes Craven is back to direct the sequel. Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox Arquette are back in action as well. It's been a while since we last saw a "Scream" flick. The first one opened in 1996, with No. 2 opening in 1997 and "Scream 3" in 2000.

No 'The Road' in October; film postponed again!

Viggo Mortensen in The Road

At least this time, it's not a major release date change. But yes, Dimension Films has decided to move John Hillcoat's upcoming drama "The Road" from Oct. 16, 2009 to Nov. 25.

Considering this is not the first time the film is postponed, I'm not so sure it will be the last. I'll believe it when I actually walk into the screening on that day. Or not.. Well, at least it will come to theaters, right?

Robert Rodriguez set for 'Nerverackers'

Robert Rodriguez is back!

According to Variety, the filmmaker will write and direct a futuristic thriller entitled "Nerverackers" for Dimension Films.

The film is set in 2085, centering on Joe Tezca, member of a elite unit ordered to put an end to a crime movement in a theoretically perfect future society.

The trade says a release date for "Nerverackers" is set for April 16, 2010.

Rodriguez most recently helmed "Planet Terror" as part of "Grindhouse." He's currently wrapping up "Shorts" and may even shoot "Sin City 2" at some point in the near future.

Rodriguez also collaborated with Dimension on his successful "Spy Kids" flicks. He also directed "Once Upon a Time in Mexico," "From Dusk Till Dawn" and "The Faculty."
