Stephen Gaghan to write 'Dead Spy Running'

Stephen Gaghan is set to write the big-screen adaptation of Jon Stock’s spy novel “Dead Spy Running” for Warner Bros.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the story "begins with the protagonist running the London Marathon, where a fellow racer is strapped with explosives. The scenario leads to a globe-trotting adventure to clear the name of the man's father."

McG will direct "Spy," which is the first film in a trilogy. Think of it as a new kind of "The Bourne Identity" spy thriller.

Gaghan's writing credits include "Traffic" and "The Alamo." He also directed "Abandon" and "Syriana."

As for McG, he's currently in post-production for “Terminator Salvation.” His directing credits also include “We Are Marshall” and the two “Charlie’s Angels” flicks.

McG to helm ‘Dead Spy Running’

McG is set to direct the big-screen adaptation of Jon Stock’s spy novel “Dead Spy Running” for Warner Bros.

We don’t know much about the plot at this stage, but the Hollywood Reporter says it is the first of a trilogy. Think a new kind of “The Bourne Identity” spy thriller.

Warner hopes to launch a franchise character with this first project, although it’s unclear whether McG will direct more than one film.

McG is currently in post-production for “Terminator Salvation.” His directing credits also include “We Are Marshall” and the two “Charlie’s Angels” flicks.

Final word: Jason Bourne proved spies are still awesome, so this better be a badass story with some new ideas.
