More details on the new 'Riddick' sequel

As you may have read recently, Universal is developing another "Riddick" flick, and David Twohy will be back to helm it. Vin Diesel will return as well, and rumor has it the film will follow the style of "Pitch Black."

The Hollywood Reporter now has some details about the third film in the series. Word is Diesel's character is "left for dead on a barren alien planet, dealing with 'trisons' (three-legged bisons) and 'mud demons.'"

Riddick is obviously also on the run, and to add some extra spice, here's what else we can expect in the film: "He must then contend with two squads of bounty hunters, one of which ride rockets called jetcycles."

So far, so good. I enjoyed the first film, but I can't say I loved "The Chronicles of Riddick." Now at least Twohy has a shot at redeeming himself and take us back to the great "Pitch Black" atmosphere.

Movie Review: “A Perfect Getaway”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: August 10, 2009

The players: Director: David Twohy, Writer: David Twohy, Cast: Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant, Milla Jovovich, Kiele Sanchez, Marley Shelton, Chris Hemsworth

Facts of interest: Twohy also directed "Pitch Black" and "The Chronicles of Riddick."

The plot: Two newlyweds travel to Hawaii for a hiking trip only to discover two dangerous killers are on the loose not far away from them.

Our thoughts: David Twohy’s “A Perfect Getaway” is one of those thrillers trying to mislead audiences so it can pull off a huge twist in the end, but as far as I’m concerned, it clearly failed to surprise me. The film is by no means a total waste of time, but its lack of suspense and inability to engage my interest makes it something I would not want to revisit.

Sunday film news web roundup: Jerry Bruckheimer goes to 'War;' 'Up in the Air' lands in Toronto

Here's a brief entry with short descriptions and links to film news we either missed or quite honestly didn't have time to add. Here's what you need to know on August 2, 2009:

• Star producer Jerry Bruckheimer has acquired the big-screen rights to the graphic novel "World War Robot," chronicling the battle between humans and robots on Earth, Mars and the moon. More on this @ Variety.

• Jason Reitman ("Juno") will show his next film "Up in the Air" as a world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September. The flick follows George Clooney as a frequent-flyer counselor who helps large companies fire their executives. (Variety)

• According to the Risky Biz Blog, Universal is chasing after Jesus, prepping what will be a remake of "Jesus Christ Superstar." Apparently, Uni has also been talking to "(500) Days of Summer" director Marc Webb, who could end up helming "Jesus." More here.
