David Schwimmer to adapt Sinclair's 'The Jungle'

With only a couple of films under his belt, 'Friends' alum David Schwimmer appears to have his sights set on adapting a literary classic. According to Movieline, Schwimmer stated in a recent interview that he has “commissioned an adaptation of 'The Jungle.'”

The 1906 novel, penned by muckracking journalist Upton Sinclair, follows the exploits of a Lithuanian immigrant named Jurgis who experiences firsthand the macabre and squalid conditions of the American meatpacking industry.

Upon finishing the novel myself, I almost fell into a depression-induced coma. So for me it is really hard to imagine Ross Geller bringing such an opaque story to the big screen.

Call me a cynic, but I cannot imagine this adaptation will be executed as well as other Sinclair adaptations such as Paul Thomas Anderson's "There Will Be Blood." What do you think?

New trailer for David Schwimmer's 'Trust'

David Schwimmer directs Trust

David Schwimmer (yes, THAT David Schwimmer) has a new movie coming to theaters soon, and no, it's not a comedy. On the contrary, "Trust" looks like a heavy family drama filled with big emotional moments, as you can see in the new trailer below. The film is star-packed as well, with Clive Owen and Catherine Keener in the lead.

Also starring is Liana Liberato, who plays Annie, a teenager who meets a dude online. When she finally decides to meet him tough, she realizes that she's been chatting with a creepy stranger, and that's where things start spinning out of control for her and her parents (Owen and Keener). Sounds decent enough, and it actually doesn't look bad.

Review: “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa”

Seen on: November 7, 2008

The players: Directors: Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath, Writers: Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath, Etan Cohen, Voice cast: Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett-Smith, David Schwimmer, Sacha Baron Cohen, Bernie Mac

Facts of interest: This is not the last "Madagascar." A third one is on the way already.

The plot: This time, Alex, Gloria, Melman and Marty try to fly back home to New York. Unfortunately, they end up crash-landing somewhere in Africa.

Our thoughts: “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” feels more like a déjà vu than an all-new animated adventure starring familiar characters. The sequel to the 2005 DreamWorks Animation hit “Madagascar” lacks all the ingredients of an inventive sequel, offering instead a boring 89-minute show with a shallow story and plenty of rehashed gags.

Brand-new 'Madagascar 2' trailer hits!

A new trailer for Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath's upcoming sequel "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" recently debuted over at Yahoo!, and you can check it out just above. To me this looks just as monotonous as the first film, except for the change of the setting the African mainland. Anyway, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith and David Schimmer return as the voice cast. The film opens Nov. 7.
