Darren Aronofsky is still recruting some ladies for his upcoming supernatural thriller "Black Swan," and the latest to join the party: Winona Ryder. Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman are also on board.

Portman plays an experienced ballerina who's having a hard time dealing with a rival dancer (Kunis). As the story develops, Portman's character is not exactly sure whether what she sees and experiences is real.

Natalie Portman to lead Aronofsky's next thriller?

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman is attached to star in Darren Aronofsky's thriller "Black Swan," a project that has been brought back to life after being stuck in studio turnarounds.

John McLaughlin wrote the original script, which Mark Heyman rewrote. The Hollywood Reporter describes the project as "a supernatural thriller set in the world of New York City ballet."

Portman would be starring as an experienced ballerina who's having a hard time dealing with a rival dancer. As the story develops, however, Portman's character is not exactly sure whether what she sees and experiences is real.

Sounds intriguing enough to me. Aronofsky recently helmed "The Wrestler," which quickly turned into my favorite film of 2008.

As for Portman, she recently boarded David Gordon Green's upcoming comedy “Your Highness." The charming actress has several projects coming up, including "New York, I Love You," Jim Sheridan's "Brothers" and "Love & Other Impossible Pursuits."

Check out this new 'The Wrestler' clip

Here's a new clip from Darren Aronofsky's upcoming drama "The Wrestler," in which Mickey Rourke plays a retired pro wrestler who risks his life by returning to the ring for one final match against his big rival.

I'm sure by now you've heard all the positive stuff that critics said about the film, which won the prestigious Golden Lion at this year's Venice Film Festival.

In the footage after the jump, Rourke asks co-star Marisa Tomei out for a beer. It's a pretty short clip, but I can already see why everybody loves Rourke in this role. He just seems to be the perfect guy for it.

"The Wrestler" will open in limited release Dec. 17, 2008. Let's keep our fingers crossed it will expand shortly after that.

Brad Pitt leaves Aronofsky’s ‘The Fighter’

Darren Aronofsky’s current flick “The Wrestler” is picking up praise everywhere it travels, but the director seems to have a lot of trouble developing his next film, “The Fighter.”

The project, about the special relationship between boxer Mickey Ward and his brother Dicky Ecklund, was originally scheduled to head into principal photography this year, but according to The Playlist, Aronofsky has been having both financial and casting problems.

In a recent interview, Aronofsky said Brad Pitt is no longer involved with the film. The actor was originally on board for the role of Ecklund but dropped out for unknown reasons. Mark Wahlberg, however, is still cast as Ward.

Why exactly Pitt left the project is an interesting question, especially because it’s not the first time he leaves an Aronofsky film. It happened before in 2002 with the helmer’s “The Fountain.”

Mickey Rourke returns to action in 'Wrestler'

Patrick Goldstein over at the Los Angeles Times has posted a interesting two-part column about Mickey Rourke's return into the spotlight with Darren Aronofsly's "The Wrestler," a film about pro wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson, who risks his life by challenging his big rival for one final match.

Here's a tiny bit from the article by Goldstein:

"Rourke had to undergo a grueling training regime to play the part--he says he did all of his wrestling stunts in the film. Even though he's a boxing fan, he now has renewed respect for the physical pounding wrestlers take every night in the ring."
I suggest you check out part one of this article right here. For part two, click here instead. "The Wrestler" took home the prestigious Golden Lion Award at the recent Venice Film Festival.
