Review: “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”

Seen on: July 15, 2009

The players: Director: David Yates, Writer: Steve Kloves, Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon, Helena Bonham Carter

Facts of interest: David Yates is also directing the two "Deathly Hallows" parts.

The plot: It's his sixth year at Hogwarts, and Harry Potter explores the past of Voldemort as dark forces descend upon Hogwarts.

Our thoughts: The world’s most famous wizard returns to the big screen for a sixth time in David Yates’ “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” a splendidly executed family adventure and yet another superb addition to an already marvelous series based on the novels by J.K. Rowling. You know what? I’m just going to say it right now: as far as I’m concerned, this is the best Potter yet!

'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' web reviews

Harry and his gang are back in David Yates' "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," the sixth installment in the popular series. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Michael Gambon, Jim Broadbent and Alan Rickman star, and here is what the Web's critics have to say about the movie:

CinemaBlend's Josh Tyler: "Instead of action it substitutes dramatic tension which builds throughout the course of the movie."

• Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "Even though I wasn't bowled over, 'Half-Blood Prince' never felt like it was two-and-a-half hours long and I would have gladly sat through another five hours if parts one and two of 'Deathly Hallows' were ready right now…"

Joblo's Jenna Bush: "You would think this would all start to get old after a while, but the truth is, it hasn't. And film number six is the best of the lot."

LatinoReview's Ron Henriques: "Still, at the end of the day, it often feels like nothing more than a group of people waving magical twigs around."

'Half-Blood Prince' gets six new character posters

Here are six brand-new "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" character posters MSN posted earlier today. Can't say I absolutely love them, but they don't look bad either. Check them out after the jump.

Harry has a pretty angry look on his face, and I guess this latest flick will be even darker than its predecessors. I wonder how "dark" they can go with this thing. Anyway, I kinda like it.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon and Alan Rickman return to reprise their role in this sixth installment of the ultra-popular series based on J.K. Rowling's books.

"Prince" will open in theaters July 17, 2009. Yay, that's my birthday. And dang, I'm turning 25 already. Hey Harry, have a spell against the speed of time?

First photo from 'Deathly Hallows: Part I' surfaces

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is still awaiting release, but David Yates is already shooting "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I."

The folks at the Daily Mirror today published a first still from the first part of the last "Harry Potter" adventure, and you can check it out in full after the jump.

You can't see that much and the quality of the pic is obviously not the greatest, but it appears to be a shot from a scene in which Harry takes a walk in a forest.

The film is set to open Nov. 19, 2010. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Brendan Gleeson, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman return.
