First 'Yogi Bear' teaser trailer hits the web

Just yesterday we got a first look at the poster for Eric Brevig's upcoming 3D flick "Yogi Bear," and today, we're in for the first teaser trailer. The film won't open until Dec. 17, 2010, but check out the teaser.

The film is a mix of CGI and live action, and I have to admit that combination hasn't always worked that well until now. Remember those horrid "Garfield" movies? That said, let's hope they will get it right.

I'm still not convinced the the look of the CG bears, but at least it looks like "Yogi Bear" is filled with silly family fun. Dan Aykroyd voiced Yogi and Justin Timberlake does Boo-Boo. Anna Faris co-stars.

Tom Cavanagh to play Ranger Smith in 'Yogi'

Tom Cavanagh has officially boarded Eric Brevig's upcoming "Yogi Bear" film for Warner Bros. He's joining Anna Faris, Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake. The film is currently shooting in New Zealand.

Variety says Cavanagh will play Ranger Smith in the mix of CGI and live-action. Brad Copeland wrote the script. Cavanagh's Smith finds himself drawn romantically to Faris' role of a documentary filmmaker.

Aykroyd voices Yogi, and Timberlake lends his voice to Boo-Boo, Yogi's partner in crime. Cavanagh's credits include "Ed," "Trust Me," "Eli Stone," "Scrubs" and "How to Eat Fried Worms."

Anna Faris, Dan Aykroyd set for 'Yogi Bear'

Anna Faris, Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake are the first to join the cast of Eric Brevig's upcoming "Yogi Bear" film for Warner Bros., which is prepping the project for a December shoot.

"Bear" will be a mix of CGI and live-action, much in the same way as the recent "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "Garfield," two films that absolutely sucked (and looked terrible). It will be shot in 3D.

Daily news dose: Roger Donaldson to direct 'Umbra;' 'Buffy' remake in the works

Here's your dose of film news for May 26, 2009:

• Roger Donaldson, whose credits include "Dante's Peak," "The Recruit" and "The Bank Job," is in talks to direct Relativity Media's "Umbra." Steven Karczynski wrote the script, but plot details are still kept under wraps. (Variety)

• Vertigo Entertainment is currently working on a remake of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but the Hollywood Reporter says creator Joss Whedon is not involved at this stage. The trade also says the project will not be connected to the television series. No writers are on board yet, and no studio has committed to the film yet.

• Speaking of remakes, Disney is in the planning stages of redoing "Flight of the Navigator," with Brad Copeland on board to write the screenplay. Randal Kleiser directed the 1986 original, about a boy who escapes NASA scientists and experiences a unique adventure on a spaceship. (THR)

• If you just can't get enough of Dan Aykroyd talking about "Ghostbusters III," here is what he told the Guardian about the plot of the new flick: "There'll be lots of cadets, boys and girls who'll be learning how to use the neuron splitter and the inter-planet interceptor - new tools to enable them to slip from dimension to dimension."

Sigourney Weaver set for 'Ghostbusters III'?

Ghostbusters III is coming soon!

We all know "Ghostbusters III" is moving forward, but Dan Aykroyd recently spilled new details about the movie in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. The big news: Signourney Weaver is apparently on board, Aykroyd said. She will be joining Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson in the third "Ghostbusrters" flick.

Details about where the story is heading are still unknown at this point, but Aykroyd said he'd like to see a new generation of Ghostbusters join the old guys. "Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation," he told the LA Times.

Aykroyd said he would like to see a team with female members, and two actresses he likes in particular are Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku. Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the co-executive producers of "The Office," are working on the "Ghostbusters III" script, and if everything plays out well enough, the film may shoot this winter.

'Ghostbusters III' ready to shoot soon?

According to Dan Aykroyd, it sure sounds like it...

The folks at the Boston Globe invited readers to ask Dan a few questions during a recent live chat session, and of course, one of the participants had to ask the BIG question: what's up with "Ghostbusters III"?

Dan, of course, kept it brief, and here is what he had to say about the project, which was already announced a while back:

"Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009."

There you have it. Considering many actors have been spilling fake rumors about future projects over the past years, I'm not sure whether to believe this 100 percent.

Then again, Dan seems confident enough about it, and I am sure we'll get official word anytime soon anyway.
