Reese Witherspoon in 'This Means War' poster

Chris Pine and Tom Hardy will try to cut each other in half in McG's upcoming action comedy "This Means War," and 20th Century Fox just debuted a new poster for the film, which also stars Reese Witherspoon, Til Schweiger and Chelsea Handler (wtf?).

The plot is fairly simple, and this is not exactly something we haven't see on the big screen yet: Two top CIA operatives (Pine and Hardy) wage an epic battle against one another after they discover they have fallen in love with the same woman.

Can't say the trailer has blown me away, but the cast looks promising and I certainly don't have anything against over-the-top action as long as it's done right. The film won't open until Feb. 17, 2012, but here is your look at the decent new poster.

Chris Pine to star in 'Welcome to People'

Chris Pine, who will soon be seen alongside Denzel Washington in "Unstoppable," is in talks to join Alex Kurtzman's directorial debut "Welcome to People," a drama which DreamWorks is developing.

The story follows a man who travels to L.A. for his dad's funeral and finds out he has to deliver $150,000 in cash to an alcoholic sister he never knew existed. He first contacts her without telling her who he is.

Pine played James T. Kirk in "Star Trek," and he's back for a sequel, which Kurtzman is co-writing. He's also got "This Means War" coming soon. Kurtzman most recently wrote "Cowboys & Aliens." (THR)

Anthony Peckham to write new Jack Ryan flick

As you may know already, Chris Pine will slip into the role of Jack Ryan in Paramount's reboot of the franchise based on Tom Clancy's novels. Today, news strikes about the studio having hired a writer.

Heat Vision reports Anthony Peckham is set to attack the project, which will focus on the early days of the action hero's career. Adam Cozad and Hossein Amini were both previously involved with the script.

Jack Bender (TV's "Lost") is in talks to direct the untitled film, which Paramount wants to shoot next year. As for Peckham, his recent credits include "Sherlock Holmes," "Invictus" and "Don't Say a Word."

First poster for Tony Scott's 'Unstoppable' hits

The first poster for Tony Scott's upcoming action thriller "Unstoppable" has hit the Web, and you can check it out in full after the jump. Let me warn you though: there's nothing exciting about it at all.

"Unstoppable" follows an engineer (Washington) who boards a locomotive with a young conductor (Pine) and attempts to chase a large runaway freight train loaded with a bunch of toxic chemicals.

The film will arrive in theaters Nov. 12, 2010. If they want to keep us intereted in this project, they better start improving its marketing campaign. This is about as boring as a poster for an action flick can get.

Tom Hardy joins 'This Means War' cast

McG's action flick "The Means War" is still happening, but it won't happen with Sam Worthington, who was attached to the project for a while. The "Avatar" star is now gone, and the role is going to someone else.

That guy is Tom Hardy, according to Vulture. Word is Hardy has signed on to star in "War," which follows two best friends as they launch into an escalating war when they both fall in love with the same woman.

The woman is Reese Witherspoon. Chris Pine plays the other guy. Bradley Cooper was also once attached to the film, but he dropped it as well. Hardy ("RocknRolla") can currently be seen in "Inception."

Chris Pine to play the new Jack Ryan

Chris Pine in Star Trek

Chris Pine will soon be all over the big screen. The "Star Trek" actor is keeping himself really busy, and now he's even in talks to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan in Paramount's upcoming franchise reboot.

Not much is known about the project at this stage, but Variety says Pine is already in negotiations to play the character in the film based on Tom Clancy's novels. Hossein Amini wrote a script draft.

Of course, this is not the first time Ryan appears on the big screen. The character previously showed up in "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," "Clear and Present Danger" and "The Sum of All Fears."

Chris Pine goes after 'The Art of Making Money'

Chris Pine in Star Trek

Chris Pine is in talks to star in and D.J. Caruso is in negotiations to direct Paramount Pictures' "The Art of Making Money," a drama based on true events with production set to kick off next year.

The film is based on a 2005 Rolling Stone article that later turned into Jason Kersten's book "The Art of Making Money: The Story of a Master Counterfeiter." Frank Baldwin wrote the screenplay.

Variety says Chris Pine would play Art Williams, an alias for a Chicago guy who became a master counterfeiter. Pine most recently delivered a very solid performance in "Star Trek."

Budget problem may stop Scott's 'Unstoppable'

The title may suggest otherwise, but it looks like Fox may slow down Tony Scott's upcoming action thriller "Unstoppable." The reason? A budget problem.

The Hollywood Reporter says Fox is taking a closer look at the flick, which obviously needs a rather heavy budget. Scott's most recent flick, "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3," delivered a disappointing performance at the box office.

"Unstoppable" follows an engineer who boards a locomotive with a young conductor and attempts to chase a runaway train loaded with a bunch of toxic chemicals. Denzel Washington and Chris Pine were in talks to star in the project.

At this stage, it's not sure what Fox will decide to do, but the trades say the studio may not go as far as stopping the film completely.
