Trailer for Carlos Saldanha's 'Rio' lands

Carlos Saldanha's next film is the 3D-animated adventure "Rio," which will be heading our way April 8, 2011. The first trailer for the Blue Sky Studios/Fox Animation project is now online (via Moviefone), and you can check it out after the jump. It's colorful and energetic, and at this point, it does look promising.

Essentially, "Rio" focuses on a macaw who abandons his small Minnesota town and heads to Rio de Janeiro to have a great summer. Rodrigo Santoro, Anne Hathaway, George Lopez and Jake T. Austin are part of the voice cast. Director Saldanha recently directed "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs."

Movie Review: “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs”

Seen on: July 1, 2009

The players: Directors: Carlos Saldanha, Mike Thurmeier, Writers: Michael Berg, Peter Ackerman, Mike Reiss, Voice cast: Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Simon Pegg

Facts of interest: None whatsoever.

The plot: Sid, Manny, Ellie and Diego are back in action, and this time, they end up trapped in a scary place inhabited by angry dinosaurs.

Our thoughts: The time has come for this “Ice Age” to end. Neither inventive nor in any way entertaining, Carlos Saldanha’s “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” is merely a product of a studio sacrificing compelling storytelling for the sake of making tons of moola at the box office. In the end, there’s nothing passionate or amusing about this sequel… only more of the same.

'Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' web reviews

Carlos Saldanha is back with "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," the latest installment in the popular animated series. The flick features the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah and Simon Pegg, and here's what some of the Web's critics think about the sequel:

• William Goss at Cinematical: "All in all, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is an improvement over its massively forgettable predecessor: generally inoffensive (save perhaps for history buffs), a bit more charming than most of the non-Pixar competition, and frivolous in the best possible sense."

• Mack Rawden at CinemaBlend: "Lazy, transparent, disposable and at its worst, boring, Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs is a sometimes beautiful piece of animation consistently ruined by unfocused directing, bizarre editing choices, phoned-in voice acting, and a script which is neither witty nor filled with momentum."

• Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "I enjoyed the first Ice Age when the idea felt new and fresh, but it is now nothing more than been-there, done-that tedium."

New 'Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' hits

The July 1, 2009 release date of Carlos Saldanha's "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" is approaching, and a new trailer for the sequel has just popped up online.

As you can see after the jump, this one's got plenty of new footage. The flick will be released in 3D, and as far as the plot is concerned, Sid, Ellie, Diego, Manny and co. will collide with a bunch of angry dinosaurs.

I enjoyed the first "Ice Age" but didn't like the sequel, which is why I'm very interested to see how things will play out in this latest follow-up. It's time for a new age indeed.

I'm sorry the embed below is in bad quality, but I will post a new, better one as soon as it becomes available.

Funny new 'Ice Age 3' teaser trailer hits!

Apple today released a brand-new teaser trailer for Carlos Saldanha's upcoming sequel "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," which marks the return of Sid, Ellie, Diego, Manny, and of course, Scrat. This third installment in the popular series is scheduled to open July 1, 2009.

As usual, this new preview features another one of Scrat's desperate attempts to protect his beloved acorn, and as usua, it's quite hilarious. While I'm not a huge "Ice Age" fan, I do admit Scrat's segments throughout the movies definitely make me laugh.

Sit back and enjoy poor Scrat's latest misfortune right after the jump. Do you already have the "Ice Age" fever?
