Movie Review: 'The Hangover Part II'

Seen on: May 26, 2011

The players: Director: Todd Phillips, Writers: Craig Mazin, Scot Armstrong, Cast: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong

Facts of interest: Ken Jeong is also an Internal Medicine MD."

The plot: The Wolfpack is back, this time in Thailand to celebrate the wedding of Stu (Helms). Hijinks ensue which, of course, none of our boys remember the next morning…

Our thoughts: In 2009, “The Hangover” was the breakout comedy of the year, taking audiences by storm and grossing a whopping $277 million, which is by far the most ever for an adult comedy. It was a comedic near-masterpiece! Now, two years later, Stu, Phil, Alan and Doug, (The Wolfpack) are back, hoping to strike gold again! Can lightning strike twice for “The Hangover”? The answer is, unfortunately… yes.

This week's new movie releases - May 26, 2011

The Hangover Part II opens this week

This week is one of sequels. Only two major films will open this week, and they are both follow-ups to successful Hollywood blockbusters. Oh, and before I forget, you can already check out both of these flicks on Thursday. I'm only looking forward to one of these.

THE HANGOVER PART II, with Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms

Todd Phillips created one heck of a hilarious comedy with "The Hangover," and although I have not seen this sequel yet, I must admit it feels good to know the boys are back. This time, they take the fun to Bankok, where they're in for a bunch of trouble.

New photos from "The Hangover Part II" debut

Zach Galifianakis in The Hangover Part II

Todd Phillips's "The Hangover Part II" opens May 26 (hey, that's soon!), and Warner Bros. just released a bunch of new photos from the upcoming sequel starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha. Not too much going on there, but check them out above and right after the jump. Ken Jeong and Jamie Chung co-star.

In the sequel, Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug jet to Thailand for Stu's wedding. All sounds good, but things quickly get out of hand. "The Hangover" was a blast, and although I am no fan of sequels these days, I admit I am looking forward to this one quite much. Enjoy!

Teaser trailer for 'The Hangover Part II'

The first teaser trailer for "The Hangover Part II" has landed on the Web, and you can check it out right after the jump. It's just a short preview, but hey, it stars a monkey in a suit, and that's not a bad start. Alan, Stu and Phil are in it as well, but Doug's missing again. See for yourself.

The Todd Phillips-helmed sequel arrives in theaters May 26, 2011. In the flick, our buddies travel to Bangkok, where they get themselves into a whole lot of trouble. Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong, Jamie Chung and Juliette Lewis co-star in "Part II."

Movie Review: "Case 39"

Seen on: October 2, 2010

The players: Director: Christian Alvart, Writer: Ray Wright, Cast: Renée Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland, Ian McShane, Bradley Cooper

Facts of interest: It cost $27 million to make.

The plot: The film follows a social worker whose life spins out of control when she takes care of a young girl with a dark secret.

Our thoughts: Christian Alvart’s “Case 39” should never have been opened. Filled with cheap scare tactics, a messy story, boring characters and dry performances all around, this completely unnecessary horror flick isn’t quite worthy of a theatrical release. It doesn’t add anything to the already exhausted genre of horror movies about demon children, and it sure as heck fails to deliver decent suspense.

This week's new movie releases - Oct. 1, 2010

The Social Network is a masterpiece

Opening this week are David Fincher's "The Social Network" with Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield; Matt Reeves' "Let Me In" with Chloe Moretz; and "Case 39" with Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper.

The Social Network: Fincher's "The Social Network" chronicles the beginning of Facebook, and wow, it's a masterpiece for sure. The acting is flawless and the fast-paced plot will keep you on the edge from start to finish. This is clearly one of the best films of the year. My rating: 10/10! Don't miss it...

Let Me In: Matt Reeves' remake of the hit horror movie has been getting great reviews, even though it's supposed to be incredibly close to the original. That said, I am looking forward to see the great Chloe Moretz star as a child vampire in need of blood. My excitement rating: 8/10.

Case 39: Renée Zellweger and Bradley Cooper in a thriller sounds ok, but "Case 39" looks terrible. Zellweger plays a social worker taking care of a girl with abusive parents. Looks like one of those lame horror flicks using the same old cheap scares to keep audiences engaged. My excitement rating: 3/10.

Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper board action flick

Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper are attached to star in an untitled action comedy written by Sheldon Turner, the dude who co-wrote last year's "Up in the Air." The project doesn't have a studio home yet.

Risky Business reports Cooper and Reynolds will play two San Francisco friends and cops whose ex-cop dads are brought back from retirement to help their sons solve a tricky case.Neal Moritz will produce.

The idea for the film was pitched several years ago, and back then, Dwayne Johnson was attached to star. Reynolds will next be seen in "Buried." Cooper has "The Dark Fields" coming soon.

Renée Zellweger in 'Case 39' trailer

Someone out there finally decided to release "Case 39," a supernatural thriller directed by Christian Alvart and starring Bradley Cooper, Renée Zellweger and Jodelle Ferland. The film will open Oct. 1, 2010.

Now the trailer for the horror flick is online, and you can check it out after the jump. It looks like yet another standard thriller in which evil spirits don't give the living a break, and that's hardly intriguing.

The quick synopsis goes like this: A social worker (Zellweger) fights to save a girl (Ferland) from her abusive parents, only to discover that the situation is more dangerous than she ever expected. Enjoy!

M. Night Shyamalan prepping secret project?

With the release of "The Last Airbender" coming up July 1, 2010, M. Night Shyamalan is already trying to get his next project launched. It's another one of his secret projects, and a script is already done.

Shyamalan let studio executives read it, but only under the supervision of his assistants, according to Heat Vision. The project also has three names attached: Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bruce Willis.

Now that's what gets my attention. Nothing else is known about this film, but with such a cast, he sure will create some buzz around town. He needs to, because his more recent projects failed to impress.

Bradley Cooper to play baseball in movie

Bradley Cooper is going from shooting guns to playing baseball. The "A-Team" actor is attached to a baseball movie Walt Disney Pictures has picked up via a pitch by busy screenwriter Allan Loeb ("21").

The Hollywood Reporter says the drama follows a baseball player who suffers an injury and heads back to the minors. He then ends up residing in a senior citizens' home, where he meets an old baseball star.

Loeb's credits include "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" and the upcoming "The Switch" and "Just Go with It." As for Cooper, he's got "The Dark Fields" and "The Hangover 2" coming up in the near future.
