Movie Review: “New York, I Love You”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: October 12, 2009

The players: Directors: Shekhar Kapur, Joshua Martson, Mira Nair & more, Writers: Fatih Akin, Yvan Attal, Alexandra Cassavetes & more, Cast:  Justin Bartha, Maggie Q, Orlando Bloom, James Caan, Hayden Christensen, Blake Lively, Julie Christie...

Facts of interest: None.

The plot: Following the concept of "Paris, je t'aime," this film boasts several short films about love set in the beautiful city of New York.

Our thoughts: I absolutely love “New York, I Love You,” and I don’t just say that because I love New York as a city. Much like its beautiful predecessor “Paris, je t’aime,” this wonderful cinematic anthology of short films set in the Big Apple proves that especially genius screenwriting and strong acting can create a truly memorable big-screen experience.

'Gossip Girl's' Blake Lively heads to Affleck's 'Town'

Blake Lively

Teen Choice Award winner Blake Lively from the sucky television show "Gossip Girl" (sorry, I just can't stand it) has signed on to join the solid cast for Ben Affleck's upcoming crime flick "The Town," the big-screen adaptation of Chuck Hogan's novel "The Prince of Thieves."

She joins Affleck, Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall and Jeremy Renner. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the awesome Chris Cooper is also in talks to join the Warner Bros./Legendary project, and I can only hope he does.

"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" web reviews

Although I'm a guy and I'm 24, I have to admit I enjoyed Sanaa Hamri' "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" almost as much as I enjoyed its predecessor. And no, not only because of Blake Lively. Anyway, feel free to check out my review right here. Now let's quickly take a look at what other Web critics have to say about the film, which follows Lively, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn as four friends who embark on their first year of college and the summer beyond.

Katey Rich at CinemaBlend: "Blessed with four talented actresses returning for the sequel, as well as a fiercely loyal fanbase, the movie didn't have to do much to satisfy its audience. If it had only tried a little harder, though, it could have been something worth recommending."

• Collider's Brian Orndorf: "It's a candy-coated drama coasting on a once perceptible charm that's taken a vacation for this installment. You'd think the sexual misadventures of four beautiful actresses would be more entertaining to watch than this presentation of storytelling lethargy."

Review: “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”

Seen on: August 7, 2008

The players: Director: Sanaa Hamri, Writer: Elizabeth Chandler, Cast: America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively, Jesse Williams

Facts of interest: Chandler also collaborated on the script for the first film.

The plot: "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" follows four best friends as their embark on the first year of college and the summer beyond.

Our quick thoughts: In 2005’s “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” four best girlfriends spent a summer apart but decided to stay connected by sharing a pair of old jeans that fit each one of them perfectly. Based on the acclaimed novel by Ann Brashares, the big-screen adaptation took four interesting characters and had them face several issues that eventually strengthened their bond and taught them a few valuable lessons about life and love.

11 ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2’ clips hit!

If you've missed the girls from "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," don't worry, they'll be back with a brand-new adventure this Wednesday. Directed by Sanaa Hamri (who replaces Ken Kwapis), "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" follows Lena (Alexis Bledel), Carmen (America Ferrera), Bridget (Blake Lively) and Tibby (Amber Tamblyn) as they tell each other all about their experiences during the first year of college and the following summer.

Warner Bros. recently released 11 clips from the flick, and you can check out all of them just below. Although I haven't read Ann Brashares' series of books, I really enjoyed the first film and certainly hope the filmmaker bring back the same interesting characters. We'll know on Wednesday. Enjoy the footage below.
