Movie Review: “Adventureland”

Seen on: April 4, 2009

'Adventureland' web reviews

"Superbad" director Greg Mottola returns to the big screen with "Adventureland," a comedy that is set in 1987 and follows a recent college grad as he takes on a boring job at an amusement park. Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Ryan Reynolds, Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig star, and here is what the Web's critics say:

• Erik Davis at Cinematical: "Once on the grounds of Adventureland, the film really takes off -- reminding us not only of the summer-fling films of our youth, but also introducing a wicked ensemble cast who put the funk back in funktastic."

Cinema Blend's Katey Rich: "But the movie is funny enough, and an enjoyable ride overall, and most importantly evokes those familiar nostalgic feelings that get you looking over old camp photos one random night."

RopeOfSilicon's Brad Brevet: "The only negative I can come up with is that it does have a few moments where it drags, but I appreciate the effort by writer/director Greg Mottola to tell a story as opposed to only offering enough plot to get the story to the next punchline."

Joblo's JimmyO: "I really loved Adventureland. I watched the trailers and I was expecting something else, but I certainly wasn’t expecting something as warm and honest as it turned out to be."

Judd Apatow to produce a horror movie?

It's an odd question, isn't it? But according to Bill Hader, Judd Apatow may indeed consider producing a slasher movie.

In an interview with the folks at CHUD, Hader said "Saturday Night Live" writer Simon Rich has put together a horror flick for Apatow:

"It's partially 'Straw Dogs' meets 'Halloween' meets 'Home Alone' meets 'Monster Squad,'" Hader said. "I don't know if it's even going to get made. Judd met with us and said 'I want to do a horror movie with you. I want to see you in a slasher movie.'"

Hader went on to describe what the film is about (apparently), and you can check that out here. It sounds weird. In a nutshell, it's about a messed up guy coming to somebody's house. Or something like that. Who knows, maybe he even made it up.

The idea of Apatow producing a horror movie, however, sounds interesting. Let's hope we'll find out more about it soon.

Bill Hader, Anna Faris to taste ‘Meatballs’

Bill Hader and Anna Faris are set to voice the leads in Sony Pictures Animations’s upcoming 3D project “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs,” according to Variety.

Mr. T, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Tracy Morgan and Bruce Campbell are already on board. Not bad for a voice cast.

The film, which is based on Judi Barrett’s popular children’s book, focuses on a group of characters living in a town where food falls from the sky just like rain. Imagine how cool this would look like in live-action flick.

The trade says Hader will play a character trying to invent something that could improve everybody’s life. Faris voices a weathergirl covering the strange happening.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord are directing their own script. If all goes well, the film is expected to hit theaters early 2010.

Bill Hader recently completed Greg Mottola’s “Adventureland.” Faris is currently onscreen in “The House Bunny.”
