One-minute reviews for August 2009 movies

Jeremy Piven in The Goods

The month of August 2009 is nearing its end, and it's time to go back and briefly look at the films I enjoyed and those I pretty much hated this month. These are one-minute reviews for all the films I've seen in theaters during August of 2009. Feel free to add yours in the comment section below.

"Inglourious Basterds" - Quentin Tarantino's WWII drama is a true masterpiece, and even though the film doesn't offer us the usual Tarantino action, it boasts an intriguing atmosphere and a massive dose of brilliant, memorable dialogue. By the way, if Christoph Waltz doesn't get an Oscar nod, I'll eat a broom.

Watch Patton Oswalt in powerful 'Big Fan' trailer

Robert D. Siegel, screenwriter of "The Wrestler," is making his directorial debut with "Big Fan," an upcoming drama starring "King of Queens" comedian Patton Oswalt.

A first trailer for the film just surfaced online, and I encourage you to check it out below. It looks intriguing and promises stellar acting performances.

Oswalt stars as Paul Aufiero, an obsessive New York Giants fan whose chance encounter with his hero unexpectedly ends in violence. The film focuses on how Paul deals with the aftermath of the incident.

As you can see in this preview, Oswalt looks like someone perfectly capable of delivering a strong dramatic performance. He was last seen on the big screen in "Observe and Report."

"Big Fan" screened at this year's Sundance and will hit theaters Aug. 28, 2009.
