Kingsley, Cohen to board Scorsese's next

Ben Kingsley and Sacha Baron Cohen may end up starring in Martin Scorsese's next project "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," according to Deadline New York's Mile Fleming. The film is based on the children's book by Brian Selznick and follows a 12-year-old living in the walls of a Paris train station.

Word is Kingsley will play filmmaker George Melies, with Cohen stepping into the role of a station inspector. Kingsley, of course, can now be seen in Scorsese's "Shutter Island." He has "Prince of Persia" coming soon. Cohen last starred in "Bruno." Looking forward to Martin helming a kid flick. How about you?

New feature trailer for 'Prince of Persia' debuts

Dagger, dagger, dagger... that's all they seem to be able to talk about in "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time." At least in the trailer, they do. Anyway, a new feature preview for the upcoming action adventure has debuted online, and you can check it out after the jump.

In the film, Prince Dastan (Gyllenhaal) teams up with a princess (Arterton) to stop a villain from laying his hands on the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can be used to reverse time and rule the world. Also starring are Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina.

Trailer boasts some okay effects and action sequences, but all this dagger talk already starts to annoy me. I also get the feeling that Arterton's character will start to annoy me very quickly as well. That is, if she ends up talking as much as she does in this preview.

Movie Review: “Shutter Island”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: February 16, 2010

The players: Director: Martin Scorsese, Writer: Laeta Kalogridis, Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow

Facts of interest: Based on the book by Dennis Lehane.

The plot: Two marshals travel to Shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of a prisoner from the mental institution, but neither of them is ready to face what really happened there.

Our thoughts: Martin Scorsese’s psychological mystery thriller “Shutter Island” is by far not a masterpiece, but the film’s creepy atmosphere, compelling characters, outstanding technical credits and fabulous cast definitely help overshadow some of its rather obvious story flaws. Although no Scorsese classic, “Shutter Island” is still worth a trip to the multiplex.

'Shutter Island' trailer delivers the goods!

Trailer for Shutter Island is now online

The first trailer for Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" has just exploded onto the Web, and you should definitely check it out below. It totally delivers the goods.

The film tells the story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.

"Shutter Island" is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson, Max von Sydow and Jackie Earle Haley.

As you can see below, the film promises to be an intense psychological thriller with a bunch of twists and, judging solely by this preview, vibrant performances. I for one can't wait, and the film will open Oct. 2, 2009.

Take a look at Gyllenhaal as the ‘Prince of Persia’

The folks over at Just Jared got a hold of some pictures taken of Jake Gyllenhaal on the Moroccan set of Mike Newell’s upcoming video game adaptation “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.” You can see part of one shot just above, and the rest of them right here!

The plot of “Persia” follows Prince Dastan (Gyllenhaal) as he teams up with a princess (Gemma Arterton) to stop a ruthless leader from laying his hands on the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can be used to reverse time and rule the world. Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina co-star.

I’ve never actually played the game and don’t know much else about the plot or characters, but considering the screenshots and trailers I've seen from the game, Gyllenhaal seems like a good choice to portray the hero of this adventure. “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” is scheduled to open May 28, 2010.

Click here for all Jake Gyllenhaal images.
