Daily news dose: Elizabeth Banks is 'Forever 21;' Schwarzenegger to show up in 'Salvation'

Here's your daily dose of film news for April 22, 2009:

• Elizabeth Banks will star in and produce DreamWorks' comedy "Forever 21," according to the Hollywood Reporter. Mike Culbert and Mike Pellettieri wrote the script, but plot details are strictly kept under wraps for now. Banks recently starred in the terrible horror flick "The Uninvited" and the hilarious comedy "Role Models."

• "High School Musical" sweetheart Vanessa Hudgens will play the lead role in CBS Films' "Beastly," a reimagining of "Beauty and the Beast." Daniel Barnz, the guy behind "Phoebe in Wonderland," wrote the script and will direct the project, according to Variety. Hudgens will also star in Zack Snyder's upcoming "Sucker Punch."

• As you may have already heard, Arnold Schwarzenegger will show up in McG's upcoming "Terminator Salvation." He's just not going to stand in front of a camera. In fact, Arnie will be digitally added to the film, which will hit May 21, 2009. Schwarzenegger said he's too busy to participate in the project in any other capacity. (Variety)

• James Marsden is set to star in Rod Lurie's reimagining of "Straw Dogs," according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film will focus on a screenwriter whose relationship with his wife starts to change for the worse after they move to her hometown in the South. Marsden recently starred in "Sex Drive."

Schwarzenegger talks 'Terminator,' 'Expendables'

Here's something interesting I stumbled across today via ComingSoon: the folks at TheArnoldFans.com recently talked to Arnold Schwarzenegger about his appearances in "Terminator Salvation" and "The Expendables."

As you may have heard already, rumors started circulating a while ago that Schwarzenegger would in some way appear in McG's upcoming "Terminator Salvation."

Here's what Arnie had to say about this: "To kind of have them go out and promote the movie and say you know Arnold is in the movie and everyone thinks that I'm the Terminator and in fact you only see one second of me in there and so I don't think thats the right thing to do."

Okay, sure. We've also been hearing a bunch about Arnie showing up in Sylvester Stallone's next action flick "The Expendables," and here is part of what Schwarzenegger had to say about that:

"So I... naturally when he asked me if I would do a cameo, which will just be something quick, like I walk out of a hotel or out of a office building and he will walk up and we will bump into each other and there will be some mumbling and then we will walk off."

Well, I am definitely looking forward to that scene. You can read more about what Arnie had to say right here.

Schwarzenegger to appear in Stallone action flick?

This is a rumor alert, so take this with a grain of salt for now.

The folks over at Ain't It Cool News just reported that Arnold Schwarzenegger may deliver a cameo in Sylvester Stallone's upcoming action film "The Expendables."

Here's what AICN has to say: "Just got off the phone with... ahem "my source" ahem... who let me know that Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to be playing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in THE EXPENDABLES.

He will be shooting for one day, and it seems that the Gov and Sly's character Barney Ross have some history back when the Gov was shooting CONAN THE BARBARIAN!"

Well, it's unconfirmed for now, but it sure sounds cool. In related news/rumors, AICN also said Ben Kingsley will not be appearing in the film. Eric Roberts will replace him, apparently.

McG responds to 'Terminator Salvation' rumors

Too many people out there immediately believe what they see or read, and that's part of why the Web is still the biggest rumor machine around.

Over the past months, we've read all sorts of rumors about McG's upcoming sequel "Terminator Salvation," but now the director has come forward to put an end to some of those silly speculations.

Talking to Total Film, McG responded to four major rumors that have been circulating online for quite some time now, including details about a potential ending, Bale having doubts before joining the project, or whether Arnie will make a guest appearance.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been spotted on the film's set, and here is what McG told Total Film about that: “We’re trying to synthesise a human character with a CGI character and that may or may not have something to do with the T800."

You can draw your own conclusions now. If you want to read more about other rumors, go here.

Christian Bale meets the original Terminator

Christian Bale recently met Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger at the Brentwood Country Mart, and Zimbio has several pictures from the encounter right here. I don't really know what they were chatting about, but maybe Arnie talked a little about the good old "The Terminator" days. Or maybe they were talking about a possible Arnie cameo in McG's upcoming "Terminator Salvation." Who knows?

Anyway, the film is currently shooting, with a release scheduled for May 22, 2009. Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, Moon Bloodgood, Common, Bryce Dallas Howard, Roland Kickinger (as the T-800) and Helena Bonham Carter co-star. For more Arnie, click here or watch a short clip from the meeting right after the jump (via Coming Soon).
