David O. Russell to possibly direct Disney's 'Maleficent'

With Tim Burton's exit from the project earlier this year, Disney is still looking for a director for their live-action version of Sleeping Beauty entitled "Maleficent." Among the many directors that Disney has in mind to helm the picture is "The Fighter" director David O. Russell.

Russell should be available as it was recently announced that he parted ways with the Columbia Pictures project "Unchartered: Drake's Fortune." While nothing is confirmed, it would be interesting to see what Russell would do with this type of material.

"Maleficent" is said to be told from the witch's perspective and has mega-star Angelina Jolie attached for the lead.

'Salt' sequel happening soon!

Let me tell you right away: I loved "Salt." It's one heck of a crazy, over-the-top thriller, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. Consequently, I'm quite excited about Sony moving ahead with the sequel, which Kurt Wimmer is writing, according to Deadline.

Angelina Jolie is expected to return as Evelyn Salt, who in the first film tried to save the world from some evil Russians. Let's hope Wimmer will come up with something just as intriguing in the follow-up. I also hope Phillip Noyce will return to direct. You?

Watch the first teaser for 'Kung Fu Panda 2'

Yes, "Kung Fu Panda 2" is happening, and it's coming closer fast. The release for the Jennifer Yuh-helmed sequel is set for May 26, 2011, and the folks at Yahoo! today unveiled the first teaser trailer.

Watch it below. Not much going on here, except for a staring contest. Jack Black returns to voice Po, and the voice cast also includes Gary Oldman, Seth Rogen, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan and David Cross.

I was not impressed with the first "Kung Fu Panda," but hey, I'm willing to give this one a shot anyway. It's opening in 3D, so get your glasses on. In the sequel, Po heads out to discover his mysterious origins.

Poster for Johnny Depp's 'The Tourist'

The first poster for Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's thriller "The Tourist" is now online, and you can check it out below. In all honesty, it's not exactly an intriguing one-sheet at all. Quite boring, actually.

The film revolves around Frank (Johnny Depp), an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise (Angelina Jolie) is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Trouble begins...

"The Tourist" is a remake of France's “Anthony Zimmer," which I really enjoyed. The film opens Dec. 10, 2010. The trailer is definitely more promising than this poster, so check out the preview here.

"The Tourist" is a remake of France's “Anthony Zimmer," which I really enjoyed. This first trailer promises a bunch of solid action and a good cast, although I admit I'm not too sure about the comic elements.

Angelina Jolie to star in Bosnia War love story

Reuters reports Angelina Jolie, who is a Goodwill Ambassador for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), will soon star in a film set during the 1992-95 Bosnian War.

Essentially, the romance will follow a couple who meets on the eve of the war. The film will chronicle what impact the event has on their relationship. It's sold as "a love story, not a political statement."

Jolie added she would like to work with local people. Shooting kicks off this fall. Jolie is currently onscreen in "Salt." She's got "The Tourist" coming out later this year, followed by "Kung Fu Panda 2."

'Inception' beats 'Salt' at Friday box office

Salt gets beat by Inception

It was a close race, but according to estimates, Christopher Nolan's "Inception" beat new release "Salt" the North American box office Friday. "Inception" finished first with $13.2 million in ticket sales.

That's a pretty darn good result for a film that's been doing well all week long. Domestically, "Inception" has already bagged $113.3 million, with eyes set on yet another weekend win. Quite amazing!

Phillip Noyce's "Salt," which stars Angelina Jolie as a CIA officer on the run, picked up $12.7 million Friday, which is not bad either. The film delivers the goods, and you should definitely go check it out.

Also opening this weekend was "Ramona and Beezus," but the family film only made it to No. 4 with $3 million. "Despicable Me" took the third spot with a daily gross of $7.3 million (144.9 million total haul).

Movie Review: "Salt"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: July 23, 2010

The players: Director: Phillip Noyce, Writer: Kurt Wimmer, Cast: Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor, August Diehl

Facts of interest: Noyce also helmed "Rabbit-Proof Fence."

The plot: Angelina Jolie plays Salt, a CIA officer on the run after she's accused of being a Russian sleeper spy.

Our thoughts: Phillip Noyce’s new action thriller “Salt” may just be one of the most absurd films I’ve seen in this genre, but to tell you the truth, it’s also one awesome big-screen ride. Starring Angelina Jolie in a role she has absolutely no trouble mastering, this fast-paced flick combines intense action and a bunch of clever twists to create quite the entertaining atmosphere.

Here's why Angelina Jolie won't be in 'Wanted 2'

You may have heard it by now: Angelina Jolie will most definitely not appear in "Wanted 2." We've heard a lot about why that's the case, but in truth, she's simply not that interested in it. Okay, fair enough.

ComingSoon briefly chatted with Jolie recently, and she basically said that she's done with her killer character from "Wanted" because she sees no reason to bring her back from the dead. And she's right.

I loved Jolie and her character in the first movie, but it would just seem odd for her to return. She said, "They were (trying to bring me back) but I kind of feel like if I die in a movie, I should die actually."

So there you go. This is coming from her, and that's it. Case closed. Jolie will be back in action in "Salt," which opens July 23, 2010. It looks like a darn cool blocbuster, and I can't wait to see how it turned out.
