Review: “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li”

Seen on: February 27, 2009

The players: Director: Andrzej Bartkowiak, Writer: Justin Marks, Cast: Kristin Kreuk, Michael Clarke Duncan, Chris Klein, Rick Yune, Moon Bloodgood

Facts of interest: None whatsoever.

The plot: Chun-Li, a female fighter, heads to Bangkok to track down Bison and kick his butt.

Our thoughts: I walked into Andrzej Bartkowiak’s “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” with the lowest possible expectations, but to be honest, I had no idea this film could end up boring me as much as it did. Feel free to hate me for saying this, but this big-screen reboot stinks.

Brand-new 'Legend of Chun-Li' images hit

Apart from "Dragonball," there is one other upcoming film I absolutely don't care about at this point: Andrzej Bartkowiak's "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li."

Of course, the film is based on the popualr video game series, and the plot follows female fighter Chun-Li's quest for justice. Kristin Kreuk, Michael Clarke Duncan, Taboo and Moon Bloodgood star.

The folks over at ComingSoon recently got their hands on some new stills from the movie. You can check one of them above and some more after the jump. For better resolution and more pics, click here.

I'm interested in reading your thoughts on this flick. Do you think it's a good idea to bring back "Street Fighter"? Couldn't you care less, or are you excited? Sound off below, and watch for "Chun-Li" in theaters Feb. 27, 2009.

De Souza’s thoughts on new ‘Street Fighter’

With the release of Andrzej Bartkowiak’s “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” approaching, why not check in with the director of the 1994 adaptation of “Street Fighter” and ask him about his thoughts on the reboot?

MTV did just that. In a brief interview, Steven E. de Souza, who directed Jean-Claude Van Damme in the first big-screen version, said he;s glad the main focus of the film will be on one character.

“I heard that it’s the story of just Chun-Li. That has to make for a better picture,” he told MTV.

De Souza said he didn’t originally want to stuff his film with so many characters, but he didn’t have a choice.

“I was begging at the time: ‘Couldn’t we just meet some of these people in the sequel?’” he said. “Even after we started the movie, they added another character because there was another videogame.”

“Chun-Li” stars Kristin Kreuk, Michael Clark Duncan, Moon Bloodgood and Black Eyed Peas singer Taboo. Release is set for Feb. 27, 2009.
