'Drag Me to Hell' web reviews

Alison Lohman in Drag Me to Hell

Sam Raimi returns to horror with "Drag Me to Hell," which stars Alison Lohman as a loan officer cursed by a creepy old lady. Justin Long, Lorna Raver and Dileep Raop co-star, and here is what some of the Web's critics have to say about the film:

Cinematical's Peter Martin: "Welcome back to the realm of horror, Mr. Raimi, and thanks for making a convulsively funny movie with chills and thrills, suffused with genuine affection for the genre."

• Cole Abaius at FilmSchoolRejects: "It all works. A return to Raimi’s roots, a return to atmospheric horror, a return to fun filmmaking. It’s probably the most fun I’ve had sitting in a darkened theater all year, and I owe it all to Sam Raimi and Alison Lohman’s ability to make out with a dead body."

• George Roush at LatinoReview: "The acting was great by both Alison and Justin Long, the direction was superb, the story was fun and the scares were a plenty."

• Joblo's JimmyO: "This is a balanced film that drifts between chills, thrills and laughs."

Movie Review: “Drag Me to Hell”

Seen on: May 29, 2009

The players: Director: Sam Raimi, Writers: Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, Cast: Alison Lohman, Lorna Raver, Dileep Rao, Justin Long

Facts of interest: Raimi also directed the "Spider-Man" flicks.

The plot: A mysterious woman curses a young loan officer after she refuses to grant her another extension on her home loan.

Our thoughts: “Drag Me to Hell” is a wild big-screen experience. It’s both entertaining and intense, and it proves Sam Raimi still has what it takes to offer his fans just the kind of crazy horror flick they are looking for. Indeed, “Hell” delivers both solid terror and great laughs; a beautiful combination you don’t get to see that often anymore these days.

Creepy “Drag Me to Hell’ stills surface on web

I’m glad Sam Raimi decided to return the horror genre in between doing all those “Spider-Man” flick, and I’m definitely excited about this upcoming “Drag Me to Hell,” which opens everywhere May 29, 2009.

In the film, Alison Lohman plays the recipient of a supernatural curse from an old Eastern European woman who used to be humiliated by others.

MTV recently posted the first stills from the flick. Check out one above and right after the jump. Some more are available right here.
