'The Secret Life of Bees' web reviews

Sue Monk Kidd's acclaimed novel "The Secret Life of Bees" arrived on the big screen this weekend, with Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and Sophie Okoneo starring in the lead roles. You can read my review here, and if you would like to know what other Web ciritics thought about the film, see below:

Collider's Brian Orndorf: "It's impossible to invest in Lily's distress when she's a threadbare character, let loose in a screen world of ridiculous stereotypes and sun-kissed contrivance."

• At Cinematical, Kim Voynar: "The film is nicely shot, looks great, and is bolstered by a lovely score by Mark Isham..."

Review: "The Secret Life of Bees"

Seen on: October 18, 2008

The players: Director: Gina Prince-Bythewood, Writer: Gina Prince-Bythewood, Cast: Queen Latifah, Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Hudson, Sophie Okonedo, Alicia Keys

Facts of interest: Based on the book by Sue Monk Kidd.

The plot: A young girl (Dakota Fanning) and her caregiver (Jennifer Hudson) flee to a small South Carolina town, where they find shelter with a kind-hearted African-American family of beekeepers.

Our thoughts: Sue Monk Kidd’s acclaimed novel comes to life in Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Secret Life of Bees,” a comfortable but at times maybe too simplistic drama about a troubled white girl finding new hope and love inside the home of a family of African-American beekeepers.

A few weeks ago we posted the new poster for Gine Prince-Bythewood's "The Secret Life of Bees" right here, and today we are happy to add the brand-new trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd's bestseller. You can check it out just above.

Starring Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Dakota Fanning and Sophie Okonedo, the film centers on a 14-year-old girl who runs away with her caregiver to uncover the secret of her late mother’s past. The footage above looks pretty good, promising plenty of solid performances in what will undoubtedly be a warmhearted drama.
