'Inglourious Basterds' tops Friday box office!

Brad Pitt in Inglourious Basterds

Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" delivered a successful first day in release Friday, as the fantastic R-rated WWII drama jumped to the top of the North American box office with a daily gross of $14.3 million in ticket sales.

Nicely done! "Basterds" opened at 3,165 locations this weekend, scoring an average of $4,534 per theater. In the film Brad Pitt stars as Lt. Aldo Raine, who assembles a group of Jewish soldiers making it their mission to kill very Nazi they encounter.

Movie Review: “Post Grad”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: August 21, 2009

The players: Director: Vicky Jenson, Writer: Kelly Fremon, Cast: Alexis Bledel, Zach Gilford, Michael Keaton, Carol Burnett, Rodrigo Santoro

Facts of interest: None whatsoever.

The plot: A recent college graduate finds herself in a tricky situation when she can't find a job and has to move back in with her parents.

Our thoughts: In Vicky Jenson’s “Post Grad,” Alexis Bledel stars as Ryden Malby, a recent college graduate who’s excited about entering the job market but quickly finds herself facing uncertain times when the job thing falls through and the lack of money forces her to move back in with her eccentric family.

This week's new movie releases - August 21, 2009

Opening this week are Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds;" "Post Grad" with Alexis Bledel; and Robert Rodriguez's family film "Shorts." "X Games 3D: The Movie" will hit theaters in limited release:

INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (with Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger)

Synopsis: Lieutenant Aldo Raine organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution against the Nazis. Known to their enemy as the Basterds, Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich.

First thoughts: The only thing I can say at this point is that I've seen the film and absolutely enjoyed it. It's quite different from Tarantino's previous flicks in terms of action and violence, but I found it to be a highly entertaining adventure that builds suspense and will capture your attention from the first to last minute.

Posters for 'Brüno,' 'Post Grad,' 'Management'

Before I wrap it up for today, here are some recent movie posters. The first one after the jump is the latest one-sheet for Larry Charles' upcoming comedy "Brüno," in which Sacha Baron Cohen travels the world pretending to be an Austrian fashionista. The film opens July 10, 2009, and as you can see the poster is somewhat provocative (and funny).

"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" web reviews

Although I'm a guy and I'm 24, I have to admit I enjoyed Sanaa Hamri' "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" almost as much as I enjoyed its predecessor. And no, not only because of Blake Lively. Anyway, feel free to check out my review right here. Now let's quickly take a look at what other Web critics have to say about the film, which follows Lively, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn as four friends who embark on their first year of college and the summer beyond.

Katey Rich at CinemaBlend: "Blessed with four talented actresses returning for the sequel, as well as a fiercely loyal fanbase, the movie didn't have to do much to satisfy its audience. If it had only tried a little harder, though, it could have been something worth recommending."

• Collider's Brian Orndorf: "It's a candy-coated drama coasting on a once perceptible charm that's taken a vacation for this installment. You'd think the sexual misadventures of four beautiful actresses would be more entertaining to watch than this presentation of storytelling lethargy."

Review: “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”

Seen on: August 7, 2008

The players: Director: Sanaa Hamri, Writer: Elizabeth Chandler, Cast: America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively, Jesse Williams

Facts of interest: Chandler also collaborated on the script for the first film.

The plot: "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" follows four best friends as their embark on the first year of college and the summer beyond.

Our quick thoughts: In 2005’s “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” four best girlfriends spent a summer apart but decided to stay connected by sharing a pair of old jeans that fit each one of them perfectly. Based on the acclaimed novel by Ann Brashares, the big-screen adaptation took four interesting characters and had them face several issues that eventually strengthened their bond and taught them a few valuable lessons about life and love.

11 ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2’ clips hit!

If you've missed the girls from "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," don't worry, they'll be back with a brand-new adventure this Wednesday. Directed by Sanaa Hamri (who replaces Ken Kwapis), "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" follows Lena (Alexis Bledel), Carmen (America Ferrera), Bridget (Blake Lively) and Tibby (Amber Tamblyn) as they tell each other all about their experiences during the first year of college and the following summer.

Warner Bros. recently released 11 clips from the flick, and you can check out all of them just below. Although I haven't read Ann Brashares' series of books, I really enjoyed the first film and certainly hope the filmmaker bring back the same interesting characters. We'll know on Wednesday. Enjoy the footage below.

Alexis Bledel, the star of TV’s “Gilmore Girls,” has signed on to star in Julio DePietro’s upcoming romantic comedy “The Good Guy,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Also joining the project is “Friday Night Lights” star Scott Porter. Aaron Yoo, Bryan Greenberg, Andrew McCarthy and Anna Chlumsky are already on board.

Written and directed by DePietro, the film stars Porter as a successful Wall Street businessman who tumbles into a crisis when he starts to advise a news salesman (played by Bryan Greenberg).

Bledel will play Porter’s girlfriend, while McCarthy will star as his boss. Yoo is set to star as his co-worker.

Bledel will next be seen in Sanaa Hamri’s “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.” Porter recently starred in “Prom Night” and “Street Racer.” He recently wrapped filming for Todd Graff’s “Rock On.”
