Jon Turteltaub to direct 'Greenpeace' movie

Jon Turteltaub, the guy behind "National Treasure," is set to direct an adventure film focusing on the origins of Greenpeace, and Aaron Sorkin ("The Social Network") may end up writing the script.

Variety says the story will be set in the '70s and '80s, following Greenpeace founders Bob Hunter and Rex Weyler as they embark on missions to disrupt whaling ships, nuclear bomb tests and other activities.

The film will pull from the books "Greenpeace: How a Group of Ecologists, Journalists, and Visionaries Changed the World" and "Warriors of the Rainbow: A Chronicle of the Greenpeace Movement."

So what's up with Brad Pitt's 'Moneyball'?

Brad Pitt

Just a couple of weeks ago we learned Columbia pulled the plug on Steven Soderbergh's sports drama "Moneyball" and put it into turnaround, but according to new reports, the studio is still on board.

So what's actually going on with this thing? Will we ever get to see it? According to Variety, yes, we will, but not from Soderbergh, whose rewrite of Steven Zaillian's script failed to impress studio head Amy Pascal.

Pascal's move to halt the project after disliking Soderbergh's vision came as an unexpected move, particularly because the film was all ready to shoot with Brad Pitt in the lead. Despite Soderbergh's exit, Pitt is apparently still attached.

Aaron Sorkin ("Charlie Wilson's War") has now been brought on-board to rewrite the script. The film is based on Michael Lewis' book "Moneyball: The Art of Winning An Unfair Game."

The central story follows Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland Athletics, who used sophisticated computer analysis system to piece together a team that regularly contended for the World Series.

Aaron Sorkin to write 'Challenge' for Clooney

Last summer, George Clooney's Smoke House acquired the big-screen rights to Jonathan Mahler’s thriller “The Challenge,” and now the project has a writer.

Variety today announced Aaron Sorkin will adapt the book, which focuses on the struggle by U.S. Navy lawyer Charles Swift and law professor Neal Katyal to guarantee a fair trial for Salim Hamdan, the bodyguard and driver of Osama bin Laden.

According to the trade, the story won't "debate Hamdan's guilt or innocence but chart the dogged efforts of the two lawyers who sue the president because they feel the U.S. government has broken the law and violated the Constitution."

Clooney is also attached to direct and star as Swift. And why not? He certainly can act if he wants to, and he definitely can direct as well (okay, "Letherheads" stank, but whatever).

Sorkin, creator of "The West Wing," also wrote "Charlie Wilson's War" and "The Trial of the Chicago 7." He is also working on a script about the birth of social networking site Facebook.
