Movie Review: “Love Happens”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: September 18, 2009

The players: Director: Brandon Camp, Writers: Brandon Camp, Mike Thompson, Cast: Aaron Eckhart, Jennifer Aniston, Dan Fogler, John Carroll Lynch, Martin Sheen

Facts of interest: None.

The plot: A self-help author (Eckhart) who has troubles dealing with his own problems falls for a florist.

Our thoughts: Brandon Camp’s “Love Happens” is more of a tearjerker than a romance, and that’s certainly part of what’s wrong with the film. As awkward as it sounds, this movie would probably work a whole lot better without the love story, because at its core, it’s more about dealing with loss than falling in love.

Trailer radar: Jennifer Aniston in 'Love Happens'

Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston go all romantic in Brandon Camp's upcoming drama "Love Happens," which is scheduled to open in theaters Sept. 18, 2009.

In the film, Eckhart plays a self-help guru who travels to Seattle for a business trip and falls in love with a woman (Aniston) who will eventually help him confront the dark sides of his life.

First trailer for the flick has popped up online, and you can check it out after the jump. To be honest, I feel Aniston and Eckhart may indeed be capable of pulling off a solid onscreen chemistry in this thing.

Martin Sheen, Judy Greer, Dan Fogler and Sasha Alexander co-star. Camp wrote the script with Mike Thompson.

Eckhart, Jenkins join Depp in 'Rum Diary'

Aaron Eckhart is in talks and Richard Jenkins has signed on to star in Bruce Robinson's "The Rum Diary," based on the book by Hunter S. Thompson.

Johnny Depp is on board in the lead role. Amber Heard joined the project just last week.

Depp is set to play Paul Kemp, a divorced and alcoholic novelist who works for a daily newspaper that’s on its last legs, drinks gallons of rum, and enjoys experimenting with LSD.

Kemp is also involved in a love triangle with Heard and Eckhart, who would play a rich landowner named Sanderson. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins stars as the head of the newspaper Kemp works for.

Eckhart was last seen in "The Dark Knight." He's got "Traveling" and "Battle: Los Angeles" coming up. Jenkins was recently nominated for an Oscar for his stellar performance in "The Visitor."

Folks, this one really boasts an excellent cast! It's one to watch out for.

By the way, Thompson also wrote the book "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," which made it to the big screen with Depp in the role of Raoul Duke.

Will The Joker and Two-Face be in 'Batman 3'?

That's a darn good question, right? Whatever will happen in the end, we've been hearing plenty of rumors about the sequel to "The Dark Knight" for months now, and as you all know, rumors are rumors and they certainly shouldn't be taken seriously until we hear it officially from the filmmakers themselves.

Anyway, as far as the Two-Face thing is concerned, it's not exactly a rumor. MTV briefly caught up with Aaron Eckhart at the Golden Globes Sunday and asked the actor whether Harvey Dent may appear in "Batman 3." Eckhart's first response: a nasty laugh.

As you can see in the clip below, he then went on to say, "If he's not dead, he's in a serious coma, and I'm not sure if he's coming out."

I know that's not much, but I admit Eckhart didn't look that comfortable answering this question. Who knows, maybe he was doing it on purpose.

The second thing I came across today is an article by Moviehole's Clint Morris, who wrote that one of his Warner Bros. sources told him The Joker may show up in the next Batman flick. "It's definitely possible; ya never know. Heard some things," the anonymous source said.

And there you go. I know it's not much, but it's circling the Web, and I think it's worth being mentioned once. My only advice: take it with a grain of salt. After all, it's just a rumor.

Aaron Eckhart to lead 'Battle: Los Angeles'

Aaron Eckhart moves back from villain to hero in "Battle: Los Angeles," a science-fiction thriller directed by Jonathan Liebesman, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Chris Bertolini, the plot centers on a Marine platoon’s battle against alien invaders in Los Angeles. The trade says Eckhart will stars as the platoon leader.

Not much else is known about the project at this stage. Liebesman’s directing credits also include the catastrophic “Darkness Falls” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.”

Eckhart was last seen as Two-Face in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight." Other roles include "No Reservations" and "Thank You For Smoking."

The actor has some previous experience starring as a lead in an action flick: in 2003, he lead a crew down to the core of the Earth in "The Core."
