Box Office: 'X-Men: First Class' takes $56M

"X-Men: First Class" earned 20th Century Fox a win at the North American box office Sunday, grabbing a decent $56 million in ticket sales. While that's a bit higher than the opening of the first "X-Men," it's also far behind the debuts of the previous sequels.
"First Class" scored an average of $15,380 per theater at 3,641 locations. In comparison, "Wolverine" took $85 million, "X2" snatched $85.5 million and "X-Men: The Last Stand" scored $102 million. "First Class" was produced on a budget of $160 million.
Dropping to second place this weekend was "The Hangover Part II," which after picking up a strong $32.4 million, is closing in on the $200 million mark with a domestic total of $186.8 million. Its predecessor made it all the way to a stunning $277 million.
At No. 3, "Kung Fu Panda 2" didn't do that bad, scoring another $24.3 million for a cumulative gross of $100.4 million. Following in fourth place with $18 million was "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," which lifted its total haul to $190.2 million.
Meanwhile, "Bridesmaids" took over No. 5, pulling $12.1 million for a $107.2 million total gross. "Thor" slipped to sixth place, reaching $169 million after weekend earnings of $4.2 million. At No. 7, "Fast Five" raced past the $200 million mark thanks to $3.2 million.
Still doing very well is Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris," which brought home $2.9 million from only 147 sites. The film's early cume stands at $6.9 million at this moment. "Jumping the Broom" stayed at No. 9 (weekend gross of $865,000, $35.9 million total), while "Something Borrowed" finished at No. 10 with $835,000.
