'The Hangover: Part II' on track to outshine original

Despite a lukewarm reception by critics, "The Hangover: Part II" has become an international monster. Not only has it accumulated around $216 million in North America, but it has grossed around $215 million overseas. This is a bit of a surprise, because historically, American comedies have not been well received in foreign countries.
This sensational success has put the sequel on track to financially outdo the first film in a big way. In fact, the $432 million that the sequel has amassed at the worldwide box office is not far behind the $467 million that the first film generated in its entire theatrical run.
On top of this, The Hollywood Reporter is also reporting that the film hasn't opened in several key territories such as Spain. This seems to indicate that the sequel will surely gross more than its predecessor.
So while it took 25 years for Todd Phillips' original "Hangover" to dethrone "Beverly Hills Cop" as the highest grossing R-rated comedy in history, "The Hangover: Part II" will strip the title from its predecessor in a littte over two. The Wolfpack has done it again.
